It IS utter idiocy that Democrats will not do anything about the border. However, that's why Johnson is in the position that he's in. He knows Dems are intransigent. Remember the compromise bipartisan border bill that Democrats were willing to support? Remember when Trump had his minions in Congress kill the bill because he wanted to keep the border alive as an issue in the fall election?

Four republicans voting to move the bill in the senate isn’t exactly bi-partisan and now that the Ukraine funding has passed I doubt Mitch would lend his support to the bill as written. I agree that it should have gone to the house for debate and amendments (just as HR 2 should have been considered by the Senate earlier) but no immigration bill will ever be passed with a divided congress as one side doesn’t want effective border security and one side does. Calling this bill bipartisan is like labeling the 1/6 committee bipartisan.

The Dems sent a bill that met all the requirements laid down by the Republicans. Trump told the Republicans not to pass the bill because it would reinforce Biden's effectiveness as the true leader of the country.
