Is printing to metal a good choice for wildlife?

I've only had one pic printed on metal (Blue Angels diamond 4 formation) and it was done by Bay Photo. The finished product was very nice, but it took 4 tries to get it right using the floating frame, between where you could see the spot welds or whatever they used to attach the mount to the carrier dropping the print on a corner and bending it. My 2nd attempt (golden Gate Bridge) is currently enroute from NYC (Printeque, formerly AdoramaPix). I'm having it done on a 30x7 piece of aluminum - white background, which was, oddly enough, a standard choice. I should get it on the 24th. Good luck with your pic. I'll upload my bridge pic if you like. I shot it (in-camera pano) from Alcatraz on what was one of the few nice days during Spring Break a few weeks ago. I like the detail in the feathers :) Personally, my favorite kind of bird has either a prop or an afterburner, LOL

I printed my zebra photo on metal and it turned out well. I wouldn’t recommend glossy as the reflections would ruin your viewers experience. Yes to the rounded corners.

Wow, what a great response you people saved me oodles of time. I went with a small (8"x10") gloss finish floating back.

Well... To EVERYONE that has responded in this thread, I say THANK YOU!!!!!.... This has been a very informative and educational thread... Lots of "experienced" responses, with things to consider....THANK YOU ALL, AGAIN! 💪😎👍

And, having printed only ONE glossy metal picture, and I have to agree with considering where you put in relation to windows.... During the the day, the reflection SUCKS... But at night, without the reflections, GREAT... that's my big beef with high gloss anything... And probably why I prefer the canvas printing...

Everyone is different on what they like, and that's why we have soooooo many choices... To each their own! Enjoy what you like!!!!

This is the first time I will be using Bay Photo to print my bird picture on metal.
I have read everything I can on the subject and still have questions?
1. Not sure if I should print to canvas or metal for wildlife?
2. High Gloss, Mid-Gloss, Satin, Sheer Glossy, Sheer Satin, & Textured
3. Which is better a floating back which pulls the picture from the wall or just wire hang it?
4. I was thinking of going with the rounded corners and no frame?
I have attached a photo of what I’m thinking of printing.
Like to hear your thoughts and advise

Artbeat Studios does a fantastic jod. I had this shot done 20x30 on metal by them and am extremely satisfied with the qualiry of their work.

Personally, I would never print a photo on canvas, but that's me. It seems to be all the rage today, even for crappy phone selfies.

I have only a couple of metal prints, one being a butterfly that I thought looked good on glossy metal.

Been seeing grayscale printed directly to foamcore. Looks to be around 266 to 300 ppi? not sure but it looks good and cheep. Not saying to do this with presentation or works for sale or hanging but for a display of what you have and do it may be the new way to go.

You should definitely check out Magnachrome (https://magnachrome.com). Their prints are very vivid but without making them look overdone. They just have a lot of "pop." I've had a few metal prints made by them and they are excellent. They also did the work quickly. Good luck!

Good shot of the pelican. The bird is overexposed. Play with the image a little and see if you can bring the detail out more, without bringing too much noise into it. I think it would look great on metal.

What do you call a Pelican that can't swallow a fish? A pelican't!

I would go with canvas with this one as some feather detail is blown out and not enough various deep color for metal to improve the shot. If this were a brilliant pheasant in full sun then a metal print would pop.

Bay Photo metal prints are my choice for anything that I print. Normally I order high gloss or mid-gloss, round corners and a float mount. This works well for any photo whether it be landscapes, wildlife, ice art, etc. The metal print colors are beautiful. My entire gallery wall is solely metal prints. Imho, metal prints are top notch.
