A few weeks ago, I discovered this tree hole was also a nest. I saw a squirrel one day take a twig inside and later saw a baby. Over time, I've seen them go in and out. Today, at first glance, I thought it was my squirrel that enjoys balancing on the small branches. Looking closer, I realized that while it may be the same, she was also a mom who was trying to get some peace, and perhaps the youngster was in timeout! Eventually, it headed down and munched on the nuts I offered. Mom also came down and ate and then, each time, went back to the branch and rocked back and forth. The baby, perhaps wiser than its age, headed into the tree hole and peeked out.
Given that a mother squirrel raises the baby until it's nearly three months old, I guess she has a right to need a little peace and quiet! I recently saw the other mom with my early tree hole set, having some words with her youngster.
Hope you enjoy!
There are many moms who will sympathize with this set, Barb.
Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Great series, barb.
Thanks for the feedback. Always appreciated!
Too many around my place, these things are destructive and eat whatever, including bird's eggs.
Personally, I shoot them.
Good for stew but very little meat if roasted.
In the last couple of years, I have collected around 50 tails... One no later than last week.
Note that the UK recognize this specie as aggressive, and a danger to their native squirrels. The result is that they are trying to exterminate them with some success. Since the female reproduces twice a year and has 4 to 6 pups...
Mom deserves a break! Cute set Barb.
