Is printing to metal a good choice for wildlife?

This is the first time I will be using Bay Photo to print my bird picture on metal.
I have read everything I can on the subject and still have questions?
1. Not sure if I should print to canvas or metal for wildlife?
2. High Gloss, Mid-Gloss, Satin, Sheer Glossy, Sheer Satin, & Textured
3. Which is better a floating back which pulls the picture from the wall or just wire hang it?
4. I was thinking of going with the rounded corners and no frame?
I have attached a photo of what I’m thinking of printing.

Personally, I would never print a photo on canvas, but that's me. It seems to be all the rage today, even for crappy phone selfies.

I have only a couple of metal prints, one being a butterfly that I thought looked good on glossy metal.

Nice reflection!
I’ve seen many wildlife photos on metal. It’s a very striking sway to display a photo.

Bay Photo has a mind numbing variety of choices. I have done a limited number of prints (all were wildlife), some to metal, some to canvas and some to paper at Bay Photo. If you live in the Bay Area, you can take a drive to one of their facilities and see examples of each? And for metal, definitely no frames necessary.
PS. I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but this print wouldn't be that large, correct? The amount of detail in the feathers is not great.
PS. Just looked at my metal print orders and yes, did do rounded corners. Can't find which finish they were. I remember doing some with metal that were supposed to resist fading if they got direct sun.

That photo on metal should be striking...and I'd go high gloss, just like the water was when you captured it.

Plus he may have a higher resolution photo than what he posted.

I'd center the bird up a bit more...
And canvas is fine, but I've learned to send in a file with the saturation and contrast bumped up a bit for canvas, because they seem to print duller than what you see on your monitor.

I have got to make two more old repurposed wood frames for the other two in this bunch... But canvas is fine with me and the wife!..
Plus I can print more, cuz they're less expensive... I'll save a huge metal print for something really special... Or maybe not, just stick with canvas 🤷

I have printed MANY of my wildlife photos on canvas! They are outstanding!

I once ordered a 'sample' pack on various types of metal. My personal preference, for most prints is High Gloss White. I purchase these products from WHCC and am very happy with them. Best of luck.

I get a lot of prints on metal with high gloss from Bay Photo. First I order smaller prints on paper, one color corrected and one not color corrected. I bump up the exposure a bit because the print job tends to look darker than my calibrated monitor even with Bay Photo’s color profile loaded in. I prefer square corners and I get the floating back.

I wouldnt generalize about wildlife images and metal prints, but the tones and graphic nature of that specific pelican pic should look great !

Absolutely and solely a matter of personal taste. To me, creatures (and humans) look better on canvas, because the texture of canvas more closely approximates the texture of feathers, fur, hair, skin, etc. I reserve metal for landscapes, which (again, just my opinion) look fantastic on metal.

If you decide to go with metal, I would avoid the sheer options. Those allow the natural aluminum color to show through a bit. I like those surfaces for metallic subjects such as autos, boats, planes, etc.

As suggested by someone above, if you decide to print on canvas I'd suggest boosting saturation a bit, as canvas presents noticeably less vibrant prints than does metal.

I have used metal prints for my wildlife photography for years, makes your colors POP. To be honest, folks in my part of Pennsylvania still prefer framed prints to buy rather than metal. My sales are usually 75% framed and 25% metal.
Personally I prefer metal, again, the colors just seem to come out richer.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.
PS. For some reason your image appears a little flat, I am sure some time in a post program would help it out, printing this print in metal as it is would not make it pop, needs a little work.

Metal is an ultra flat, smooth surface with special reflective properties affected greatly by the coating surface applied to it. I generally like it for very brightly colored subjects, and choose high gloss for those. I'd rather print softer images on "rag" papers (those with high cotton fiber content).

I do like the "floating" back effect for metal. If you order it without a frame, rounded corners are a smart choice. Display metal prints where they cannot become lethal weapons by falling on someone. A heavy, large metal print cuts like a guillotine blade if it falls on someone.

Black River Imaging has 15% off metal prints until May 1, and free shipping over $35. They are affiliated with Bay Photo, I have ordered from both and do not notice any difference. My preference is satin. Not sure how you would attach wire to hang it, so I have used the floating back.

Nice photo hdfilmnoir. Metal is my choice for all photos now. I used to be a fan of canvas prints, but after trying a metal print, there was no going back. After Costco quit the printing business, I scouted around and have been using Printique (a subsidiary of Adorama) and quality has been top-notch, along with free shipping (for orders exceeding $100).

I go with a High Gloss as it really shows off the print, and if you want to show your print to a friend, just grab the print from your wall and walk outside into the bright sun. The print explodes with color and your friends will be totally impressed with your work.
