I have a CF Express Type B memory card, 256GB, that is not recognized when I plug it into a card reader and then insert it into my PC. The card was formatted in a Nikon Z9 camera. The card is working because I can copy it's images onto the other memory card (same type) in the other slot of the camera. But again when I use a card reader into my PC it will not recognize it. The other card is read instantly by the computer and I can see all the images, including the ones I have copied from the card that is not recognized. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get the computer to recognize the other card?
May be use another card reader?
Try the links above first, but here is my experience with those issues....
I have occasionally seen similar issues on a Mac, but rarely.
The first thing I try is to restart the machine with the card and reader attached, whatever the initialization routines are, they sometimes help.
I have seen cables be the culprit, try changing cables.
Also check the card reader manufacturer for software updates.
It also sometimes happens that an OS update breaks things that used to work
Thank you so much. I will try several of the options listed and let you know if one of them works.
Hi there, I have some difficulties with the CF express B cards as well...but it is a bit more nuanced.
See if windows does recognize the card but that your problem is that Adobe's image downloader does not. That is my problem. Here, the core problem is that the downloader module is poorly coded and Adobe blames the subcontractor who developed that bit of it. Shame on them for not insisting on a fix.
If you find that windows does recognize the drive (even though adobe downloader does not) you can copy files over using a windows file manager type utility or, oddly enough, Adobe Bridge will allow you to see that drive and you can select the files and direct them to be copied to where you want them.
What everyone else already said, but, I once had a card that worked, then worked intermittently in my PC slot, but always worked in my camera. This of course panicked me a bit fearing I might lose pics some day. I copied a few thousand mp3's onto the card and stuck it in my wife's car radio which had a SD card slot. The card has worked in there for over 10 years and still works after I gave the car to my son. My guess was the metallic connection on the card was failing and the computer slot was more sensitive to that than my camera. I almost never removed the card from the car slot whereas the camera to pc move was constant.
Bottom line is IF you can't find a software solution, find another less critical use for the card or deep six the thing.

See if trying to upload the photos to the computer straight from the camera works. That will tell you if it the card reader or cable. use the cable that came with the camera, if they still do! Good luck.

What are you talking about? You quoted the OP, there was nobody to quote yet! I don’t see any comments here that aren’t clear as to who is intended.

My Guess:
Transfer all the images from the camera to wherever you keep them on your computer.
Then reformat the memory card and see if that works.
