I was cutting the grass, which was tall. I noticed something, and it was a garter snake. Well, I figured if I was two feet away, I could at least touch it. I bent down and reached out, approaching with my hand. When I was about two inches away, my hand started to shake uncontrollably, and, though I pushed, I couldn't get any closer. That was the end of that until about fifteen years later. I took my Japanese girlfriend to a reptile show at the U of I, Chicago. First thing, we enter the display room, and two feet away, there is a guy holding a gorgeous yellow boa. He asks girlfriend if she would like to hold it, and of course she says yes. After she finishes, he turns and asks me, a confirmed lifetime snake-phobe. Girlfriend looks at me, and so I say "SURE!" It was an amazingly sensuous (sensual is the sexual kind 😒) and tactile experience. I ended up doing it three more times before we left. Go figure

Must have been in fall since, when I take long walks, I see them crossing the roads back and forth at the time of the year. Other seasons? No.
