The dinner was wonderful and you can’t do much better for atmosphere than a table next to a canal in Venice as the sun starts to set! We found our way back to the vaporetto stop and then to San Marco via the vaporetto and then to the hotel via their boat. It turns out that there are two San Marco vaporetto stops and we got off at the wrong one and had to wait for the next vaporetto to get back to where we should have gotten off. We were tired from a full day in Venice and it was getting late, so we were a bit concerned that we would miss the last hotel boat back and have to pay for a private boat ride. However, we made it back fine and had a pleasant surprise when we arrived in our hotel room. Even though it was apparently Viking’s error to cancel our hotel, a very nice bottle of chilled Prosecco was waiting for us in our room; see the last photo. Thanks, Marriott! It was late and we were leaving the next morning for Lake Garda, so we carefully packed the Prosecco and ended up drinking it one evening as we cruised the Rhine.

Note the accordian players in photos 3 and 6; they are very popular in Italy. I played the accordian for about 3 years as a child. My Father was a first generation American with both of his parents born in Italy, so it was a logical instrument for me to learn to play. I actually wanted to play the drums, but was overruled.
