Another beautiful find and shot Tom

Thanks, Jack.

I added some new search areas last Fall that proved to be fruitful. I'm not sure if this barn was in North Carolina or Tennessee...it was right on the line.

Thank You for sharing.

I'm glad you stopped by. I appreciate your comments. The search for subjects like this has taken me all through the Blue Ridge, Smoky, and Appalachian mountains. Been doing it for years.

I stopped at a house about 200 yards from the barn. Got permission to enter the property to get these shots.

Great set of images
I will probably sit until it falls down, cost too much to tear down and not very much to salvage.
Unless the property changes hands..

Tom too bad it has got to the point of being a danger if someone goes in. The stories it could probably tell. I would for safety reasons tear it down (SO SAD). Take down and plane all the boards and cut to make perfect wood. The wood from these old buildings is SUPERB!! and expensive. Can be used for all kinds of things. furniture, coffee table, kitchen table, wine rack, wall art, headboards, shelves, etc. The list is endless. Awesome photos. Keep it up friend. Thanks BE SAFE!!

I'm with you on this, Frank.

I don't think that there's enough good salvageable wood to even attract the wood scavengers. Generally, the agreement with those scavengers is that they have to take everything...they can't come in and cherry pick just what they want. The cost to tear it all down and haul it away would probably be prohibitive.

I disagree there is plenty of wood to salvage. This kind of wood is very expensive to buy after planing it etc. Well worth the cost of tearing down. Also these are hard to find anymore as people have been tearing down for the wood for awhile now. Thanks BE SAFE!!

Hi, Tom.

When I'm out in that environment, talking to folks, I get the impression that the demand for old bern wood is waning a bit. The economics are not with the scavenger to the extent that they used to be. If this place was a feasible target, I think they would have been all over it by now.

I myself, have two things made from old fence wood...a neat picnic table and a clever carousel, spinning thing that I put small items on out in my shop. A friend I have in the mountains made it for me. I told him he could sell those things all day long. He said he'd rather be hunting and fishing...can't fault that.

You're probably a lot more tuned into that situation than I am. I have one question, though. How do you take a log, warped board and plane it down? Don't you loose too much of the board trying to flatten it? I'm admitting to you, Tom, that I don't know much about of this stuff. In the case here, most of those side boards has a pretty pronounced warp to them.

The question that comes to my mind is, "Why is it still standing?"
