The "toner low" warning is to let you know to have a spare ready. In other words, "Please go buy a new toner cartridge now, so you don't run out."
And that's a very good idea. I bought a pair of cartridges when I bought the printer.

Previously I bought new printer when the toner cartridge ran out. I had a B&W Samsung laser and a Minolta color laser for $50 each. The cartridge for the Samsung is $80 and the set of cartridges for the Minolta is about $200.

A window popped up on my computer after using my Epson L2350DW laser printer. It was a "WARNING" telling me that the toner was running low. I'm assuming that this is because the toner that shipped with the printer was a smaller amount than usual. I'll keep an eye on it and replace the cartridge before it runs out and stops printing. Or, maybe I should wait until it says it can't print anymore. I have two standard cartridges standing by.
Long ago, I stopped using color printers for simple reproductions, refills were too expensive. I sell online and use a monochrome printer, HP Laserjet 1820, one of the more reliable models, and buy off-brand refills that last a LONG time.
For Photography, Epson P800 - higher-quality color prints, but expensive refills. This entire process has pretty much seized due to a lack of interest in printing anything for anyone anymore except for holiday or birthday gifts.

Take the cartridge out and give it a good shake. Normally gives you another several hundred prints.

Remember that there’s a choice when buying new Toner Cartridges. I always buy ‘High Yield’ toner cartridges. Maybe replace them every 1-½ years or more. My cartridges are about $20 for a pair.

I am glad I don't work for you. You treat people like toner cartridge.
It was just a bit of sarcasm...a touch of humor...sorry that was lost on you.

I've done that many times. On the HP Laser Printer that I bought about a year ago, I kept getting a low toner warning. I probably got another 100 pages out of it before the print quality really declined.

Don't do it Jerry. Just don't.

Back in the! day, working IT, we didn't need the best printers. Just easy ones. Cheap was good.
ANY, the plan was to buy a cheap good printer. Came with a coupon for cartridges at sale. Buy them.
When the second set ran out, we'd give away the printer, and repeat.
We only needed text and diagrams, so that worked for us.
