Western Kansas is, well, Western Kansas. Just west of Salina is some interesting hill country; the Eisenhower Presidential Library is in Abilene; Fort Riley near Junction city has memorabilia and a former quarters of General Custer; Lawrence is home to the beautiful campus of the Univ. of Kansas, and that's as far as I've been in a car.

If you are going through Kansas on I-70, go at night!

I am going to visit family in Illinois, Pontiac area, next month. I live in Denver and am planning on driving out through Kansas on I70. Does anyone have any suggestions on places to do some landscape or wildlife photography?
I’m also going up 55 in Illinois. Would welcome suggestions for that drive also.
Thanks for any suggestions you might have.
Have a great day!

Go ON LINE and Google "KANSAS STATE PARKS" and it will give you a lot on information showing a lot of interesting places to visit in Kansas. It also shows a horizontal line across Kansas that represents I-70. If you can get a Kansas road map you will be able to see places along the way that are fairly close to I-70. In the past 20 years I have made one, two and three day trips with my camera and long lens to different parts of Kansas. I have photographed Bison/Buffalo, deer, wild turkeys, fox, coyotes, swans. pelicans, snow geese, other water fowl, Pheasants, Golden Eagles, Turkey Vultures, Prairie Chickens, a Red Fox with little ones, a colony of Raccoons and a Badger. On a few other trips I did not see much wildlife. Take your binoculars with you.

In Abilene visit the Eisenhower Museum, well worth the time. Don't know if the OLD Abilene town is still there.
