I have Skype app installed on my Android cell phone. I thought that Skype was only to do calls, voice or video, to others with Skype also. But recently, I am getting notifications from Skype much like text msg notifications, and these notifications are of the news type. For example, Skype today sent a notification about the death of O.J. Simpson.
I looked at the Skype app, and didn't see any way to turn off such notifications. Anyone else experience this type of behavior? And does anyone have a solution to stop Skype from sending these notifications?
I researched further, and found that using the Settings of the cell phone, not anything in the Skype app, one can find Skype among the myriad of applications, and disable notifications for just that app. I did that...will monitor to see if I get anymore such notifications from Skype.
Perhaps an update to Skype (of which I am unaware) altered the notifications from OFF to ON. That's the only thing I can think of that perhaps caused this scenario.
Does any UHHer have Skype? and are now getting unwanted notifications?
I use Skype on my PC but not on my Pixel 8 as Skype never turns off, even after you 'close' the app.
The only way to kill it is to go into settings and specifically stop that app.

I have had the same experience, and will shut notifications off. The Worst part is that for the last 3 days or so they have only notified me about OJ Simpson. Once us enough.

When you say that "Skype never turns off," does that mean that if after a system startup, you never OPEN Skype, then it is not running, and the "never turns off" is not an issue?
Or does Skype start running automatically when you start the cell phone?
