Conversion to AI

I have a Nikkor F mount manual (Nikon prong), 50~300 f4.5 that I was given from an estate. It is quite a chunk of glass.
I would like to have the mount converted to Ai to fit a D200 or D7200 slr.
Does anyone have a possible source for the mounting kit and shop to do this. I have been told that there may, in someone's old obsolete equipment drawer.

You'll have more luck finding a time machine to go back to a time when this idea was more in vogue.

Depending how your aperture ring is like. If it's sticking out too much and hit the AI aperture ring feeler then it's relatively easy to make the modification on your own. The aperture ring to my surprise can be removed quite easily then if you have a milling machine mills it's off a bit leaving a ridge to activate the AI feeler.
If the aperture ring doesn't hit the AI feeler then you need to add a ridge to the aperture ring which is more difficult to do.

Free is always an attractive price. The ED version of that lens was well regarded in its day. The non-ED version...not so much. Either way more recent lens designs have passed it by. A fun novelty item but not worth throwing much money at.

The idea of milling off a portion of the aperture ring is my Plan C option.

Free is good! I figured that if modifications can't be made in a cost effective manner I can always take it apart and give the lens to the kids to play.
I've seen used 50-300's on sale for $90 or less so trade in is likely to be $45 . It's heavy so postage will probably kill any "value."

If you google Nikon F mount to AI converter you’ll get a lot of choices

I am familia with John White, he has done conversions in some of my old lenses and they work to perfection.
