Kodak T-Max RS developer

After a 10 year break in shooting Ilford Delta 100 4x5 and processing it in T-Max RS (a great combination) I am shooting once again. I can't find any T-Max RS. Seems it has been discontinued.

Has anyone used T-Max (not recommended for sheet film) with this film? The advantage with the RS was the ability to replenish it with the same chemistry.

I am using a 2 gallon dip and dunk line processing 7 4up hangers at a time.

BTW after not buying film for 10 years i was shocked that my $42 box of film is now $219.

7 x 4up is $50 worth of film.

I always used HC110, and for a $50 batch of film I have no problem mixing it fresh for one (possibly two) runs and then dumping it. Since I used it at greater dillution than either of the Kodak published dillutions it didnt cost me too much to dump it.

Kodak instructions were for "full strength" and "half strength". MY terms, Kodaks specs. By those same terms, my dillution was "quarter strength" and at that dillution it wasnt costing very much to always mix it fresh.

OK, obviously chemicals now cost more these days. But then, as you point out, so does film ... five times more $$ (per your remark). At that price for film, I would still be using freshly mixed developer. OTOH, the problem has gone away. Theres these newer cameras now that dont use any film or chemicals. Life is good.

HC110 seems like the possible solution. i've used it at 1:100 16 min at 75degrees. it does ok but i seem to miss the shadow details of TMax rs.

i have and do use the newer cameras with free film, but it's not quite the same thing.

thanks for your thoughts

FWIW, I followed the developer with a lengthy water bath. And as you know, shadow detail depends on exposure and not developer. IIRC, Kodaks published mixes were 1:32 and 1:64. If so, then I was at 1:128. Exposing for good shadows, 1:128 didnt block up the highlights.

Your long development time seems roughly familiar, and acoarst one more run at about 20% increased time was the limit for such a dilluted mix. I was using half gallon (?) tanks and single sheet hangers, eight (?) sheets per tank. I could handle two tanks simultaneously. With the loooong run time I didnt like doing one tank twice. I used dry tanks to stage the hangers as I was loading them. Half gallon tanks were cheap enuf so I had all I needed.

And again, thaz history and I dont miss it.
