Cool pictures. Something I would use a long lens for.

Wow, a Gopher Snake. Great find and cool shots. Take care of it. Its favorite food is rodents and just by being there will reduce the mouse population, not counting the one it eats.

Nice set. I hate snakes but I would let that one live.

Actually the first shot was with 100-400. The other 2 were with a 90mm Macro. To get him to flick his tongue I wiggled a finger on my left hand right in front of his face. Just an Eastern Garter Snake, pretty harmless. He did strike at me once or twice but that was just for show. Didn't attempt to bite.

Thanks for the view and comment.

I'm on the east coast so I believe it's an Eastern Garter Snake. Only about 18" to 24". Hard to get an accurate estimate when he was rather curled up. Unfortunately they eat frogs and toads along with insects, worms and slugs and such. We had a long talk about what he was to eat and not eat. As long as he leaves the frogs and toads alone he is welcome to stay. He's also more than welcome to eat a vole or 2 anytime he wants.

Thanks kpmac. I like the snakes but my local favorite is the Eastern (Black) Rat Snake. The name tells you why I like them so much
