As I entered the auto route circling the main marsh area of Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge, I encountered several photo ops that made it clear that my days of hand-holding the beast (A1 and 600mm lens with 2X tc) and getting sharp shots were over. When I had the car or a large amount of time, I could get shots in focus. Otherwise, a monopod is in my future. Thankfully, I also had my A9 and a 100 - 400 mm lens with a 1.4 tc. That enabled quick reaction and closer shots to work.
