It was a perfect day Saturday after a windy wet Friday. Today was another good day. I managed to get to the Saturday event for the first drag race I've been to in 20 years. Things have changed a bit. Force is still doing his thing, Ron Capps has put a bit of weight on, but still doing good. Greg Anderson took Pro Stock. I don't recall all the other results, because I was too busy taking snap shots. Here are a few.

Very nice set! We don't know similar races here home...hence those pictures are interesting (at least , to me!).
I wonder what happend in the last picture: there is a kind of "fire/flame" floating in the air, just beside the car, quite nearby its carrosserie...how a flame could be produced here in the air, far away from any potential fire source?

The flames are produced by the Nitro Methane fuel they burn in these engines, which makes up to 12,000 horsepower. Did you notice the heat waves behind the car? They have to rebuild these engines between every round. I have a few photos of the pit crew with the engine disassembled.

Great set. I haven't been to a drag strip since the 1960s but through your pictures I can feel the excitement and smell the nitro

The Sweet smell of Alcohol and Nitro Methane is a good way to start the weekend.

Nice batch of pix, thanks for sharing. Wow, it has been a few years, < 12 since I have been to a drag race. I attended the meets in Pomona three times. Watched this years Arizona Nationals on TV Fri-Sun.

They had to run some of the Pamona Winter National finals at this event. I'm guessing because of a weather delay at Pamona.

Excellent photos!!! Believe me, I know how hard it is to capture these machines.

I agree, but pushing the shutter button enough will increase your keepers.

Great shots. The last drag race I went to was the '68 spring nationals in Englishtown, NJ. Yes, things sure have changed!

It's gotten so high tech, only deep pockets can survive. I still love those wheel standing 10 sec door slammers.

Last year was supposed to be the last, but new blood has been infused into the facility and they claim it will be here for many years to come. It was sold out and the best National event I've seen.

That's great, I'd miss it even if I rarely attend. Will they also keep Firebird Lake, I wonder.
