My suspicious mind imagines a structure intended to obscure a moonshiner's still. Note the grain loading door just under the eaves , the paucity of windows, and the chimney to explain away the smoke from the still.

After considerable consideration, I find your hypothesis to have a lot of merit. The chink in the armor, though, is in explaining all of the smoke in the Summertime. Rest assured, when I'm up there in that area this coming Fall, I will find out what the principal use of the building was.
