Yeah, I love those Oldsmobiles of that era, despite the fact they look lumbering and heavy and not a candidate for a nimble track racer. The rear window treatment of the ‘57s was just cool.

Stan

I agree with you about that rear window. You could spot those cars a mile away.

Excellent set of eye catching motors Tom, especially like the last one. Hope your foot was ok!

Hey, Sylvia.

Thanks for stopping by. I tried to slink away into the crowd as best I could. One guy ( had to be a Dale Earnhardt fan ) hollered out " Sue the Prick ".

Your diversity of experiences that you participated in is something you'll never forget. I caddied nine holes for Arnold Palmer in a charity event, I played nine holes with Mickey Mantle ( the most impressive thing about him, to me, was how far he could drive a golf tee into the bark of a pine tree, using only his hand ) and I stood and watched Lee Trevino hit about 30 wedge shots using my wedge club, When he played in the Jacksonville PGA tournament, he would come to my club to practice ...get away from the crowds. I'm on the practice tees hitting wedge shots. Up walks Trevino and his caddie and he sets his bang down next to mine, After a short time, he asked if he could try my wedge out. Long story short, he loved the club and ended up having one made by the clubmaker that made mine. Before he was through hitting my club, another 8 guys who were also on the practice tees, had come over to watch. He had every one of us laughing our butts off over stories he was telling about life on the tour. I remember that whole episode like it was yesterday.
Your diversity of experiences that you participate... (show quote)

Wow! How cool is that!

OMG that's a '57 Olds Super 88; the car I learned to drive in. It was a friggin' tank; I can't believe anyone could turn it into a race car!

I REALLY love the last shot of The Oldsmobile.... Don't see many of the older late 50's Oldsmobile Iron. BTW, If any of you have the opportunity to do a " Richard Petty " experience... just DO IT ! The REAL THING, just detuned a little.

I will second the Richard Petty Experience. I did 40 laps at Disney World in 2007. Worth every penny.

If I ever run across an opportunity, I'll do that.

Sitting in the pits for the first time behind the wheel, the guy told me he wanted me in third gear by the end of the guard rail. It would have been nice if he had said that the set-up of the front suspension was going to jerk me hard to the left as soon as I let out the clutch. Do you remember that? Of course as you got up the speed, the steering worked really well.

Yeah, I can't believe you did 40 laps... I could only afford 8. WHAT a thrill though... Hardest part was getting in that window after having Colon surgery. Well worth it though.

Ouch! That's determination.
It was our 25th wedding anniversary, and we were kind of going all out. And at 57, I figured it was now or never. She wanted to go to Cirque de Soule. I wanted to drive a cup car. (We've been to Cirque at least three more times since. What an impressive show.) I had fun with those guys, even though I had them rolling their eyes at some of my comments. But I paid attention, and even bought a ride-along before my drive. I learned a lot. And even found smoother (faster) paths through the turns on my half hour trip to work and back when I got home. But the best thing was the conversation I had with my lead driver when he walked up to me before I left the showroom.

I hope you had as much fun as I did.
