If I go to a cow store, I don't expect to see pigs. It does not mean, I like or dislike pigs. It simply means, I don't expect to see in that particular store. Hopefully the analogy is within comprehension.

If a penis were inserted in that lovely vagina, I would say “tooo much for this forum” As my godmother said when I commented on the amount of open and beautiful nudity on network TV in Norway “In Norway nudity and sex are OK, violence and murder are not”. We have so many much more important hills to climb and battles to fight than the occasional showing of female genitalia in our forum. I, for one, say the image, although explicit, is fine and more of them is supported.

How would Maplethorp's controversial subject matter work be treated here? He is very famous and a very accomplished photographer. I don't appreciate a good portion of the subject matter of his work at all. There are a bunch of landscapes and modern art I hate too... . . Doesn't mean I would ever consider preventing someone else from viewing or displaying them. And doesn't mean maplethorp doesn't know what he is doing... He is way closer to Ansel Adams than I will ever be as far as photographic craftsmanship. And some seem to love and appreciate the most controversial subject matter.

Freedom of speech means allowing speech you don't like or agree with. A concept that many nowadays fail to comprehend.

So let's conclude that this isn't the sort of image you'd take nor display... I appreciate your viewpoint on this. But thats all I care to hear from you on the subject. You had to jump through some hoops to view it, nobody forced you. You can avoid the OP's work altogether, you can set the OP in your "ignore" list and not see any of his posts.

So if it is ok with you, I'd prefer to decide what I don't want to look at or appreciate for myself- and wish the same for you.
How would Maplethorp's controversial subject matte... (show quote)

Thank you.
At camera club one time the club's monthly competition subject was "Human Form" and a female photographer came to give us a presentation about this subject prior to the competition entry time. She used famous nude photos in her Powerpoint slides, including both Robert Mapplethorpe and Ansel Adams works. One of her Mapplethorpe examples was a photo of an erect penis. Art is art. No one can tell other people what is or is not art.

And what about painted artworks? One time I was in Christchurch's public at gallery (South Island of New Zealand) and there as a huge painting of a nude woman with open 'crotch' for all to see - children included.

Not only that, but when I was in Paris I went to Pompidou and in there there was an 'art' video showing a nude woman and with fully dressed male and female people lining up in a queue to each have a turn of running their hands over her naked body however they saw fit. In Pompidou, Paris, even that is art.

Why is Robert Mapplethorpe controversial?
Although many of his works — including exquisitely lighted images of flowers — are uncontroversial, a series of homoerotic and other sexually explicit photographs made him posthumously a political target and a central figure in a First Amendment clash over the legal meaning of art and obscenity.

What is Mapplethorpe best known for?
Robert Mapplethorpe is best known for his powerful black-and-white portraits and self-portraits. His photographs both challenge us and present us with images of classical beauty.

Why did Robert Mapplethorpe get into photography?
His initial interest in photography was, in part, an outgrowth of the collages he had been constructing with images from pornographic magazines.
