Ray Ban Sunglasses

I've always been a fan of Ray Ban sunglasses since the 1970's. Until now, I've usually purchased the tear-drop models, including the Outdoorsman models. Of late, I've become a fan of the Caravan model, having purchased a couple of pairs of the U.S.-made models from the 70's-90's. The Google, etc., searches are bereft of any sites like UHH, where there's real expertise on the models, replacement lenses, and the like.

I also own Randolph Engineering and AO sunglasses.

Any hoggers know of any blogs?

No thanks, I don't like mirrored lens. To me it makes the one behind them look like a smart a$$

I have a pair of Ray Bans but have been enjoying my Serengeti Navigators for over 20 years. Both are great.

I love Reyes and I’ve always had the aviator type. But I also like this brand very much.

I recent years, 10 or 15 years, most Ray Ban are made in Italy which makes sense because they are owned by Luxotica an Italian company. The older ones were made in USA. But now I think most of them made in China. Saw a few made in Thailand.

Five or six years ago, I bought a pair of non-prescription Tifosi’s with a lower reader magnifier so I could read the Garmin while bike riding. Three years ago, I bough two more pair with high reader magnification. Then, last year another pair with my full prescription that are my go to driving sunglasses. The non-prescription glasses were all priced at $60, the full prescription at $300. All except for the first pair were purchased online. Sometime on that five or six year span, I bought a pair of Ray Bans that rarely left the car. I don’t know if it was the prescription or pupil distance or what but my eyes would fatigue wearing them for any length of time. I even had the prescription revised/updated with no real improvement. They now rest comfortably in the car’s glovebox because apparently I can’t give up on them yet, probably because how they cost me. But…. the Tifosi’s are well worth looking into.

I had a pair of them and really liked them until I turned my head in a boat and watched them land and sink into a lake.

That's just sad. Remember the hat that Ducky wore all the time on NCIS? I had one just like it. It was a Stetson that I found in a men's store. Some years ago I was wearing it while on a boat taking photos of Cranes and other birds in Aransas Bay. I turned to take a photo and the wind blew my hat off. Dang. I really like that hat. It was a double decker boat used for guide tours. No turning back.

I really loved Ambermatics. Must have gone through half a dozen pair. Last pair I laid on the ground while changing a tire, forgot and backed over them. I was so disgusted, I gave up sunglasses

ebay has a pair of Timberline Ambermatics for $849. Good lookin' but I don't imagine that they'll sell anytime soon. Others are priced in the mid 300's.

I know, and now I’d need prescription (or clip ons). Ambermatics would darken from a yellow in low light (which actually gave everything a rosey hue and seemed to increase visibility in foggy conditions) to a dark brown very quickly in sunlight.
