I get what you are doing. But for me it is too much of a distraction. May be hold the camera more true too the shape more would have been in focus the first one hurt's my eyes I ware varifocal's, I am having trouble getting a focus point.

Not everything has to have meaning, acceptance of what is..... in the case of the driftwood/ocean, a snippet of Beauty by looking through the keyhole of driftwood. :)

I like your idea. Maybe a little less framing giving more of your sharp subject and horizontal instead of vertical or even square. move a little closer to the forgound object to give you more of your subject.
Number 2 is the best of the three!

Thank you for your advice. Yes I agree with the less framing, the natural hole in the driftwood was very small and I was holding the driftwood in one hand and the camera in the other. This was a spur of the moment experiment, while walking on a beach, but one I would like to explore further, so thanks again and Merry Christmas Laurie :)

For me it is too much of a distraction. i think you are onto something but possibly a different object frame with that does not fill up the frame and leaves the true object obscured!! my .02 worth!!

experimenting, it's all a learning experience/education.

I like your concept. Forget the fuzzyness comments. That is what it was meant to be.
I think you need that frame all around - #3 nearly missed on the one side.
I also think you need something to standout in the 'picture'. The one with just water has nothing (less) to look at .
Someone said they keep trying to get another angle of view through the knothole - must be a good shot if we want more.

You are looking for a 'frame' you can re-use? Maybe it was that driftwood piece you already have found. Take out the background via PP techniques and you can use it over and over - just apply it over your new pictures (PP) as you like.
