I use the Brave browser with either Braves own search engine or Qwant or StartPage,
all are said to be very private.

You can sent up another search engine as the prime search engine.

Bravo & Duck are the ones I use as they prevent so much tracking and goofy ads.

Not me. What I hate is that, despite the fact that my default search engine is Google, windows will use bing anyway... I keep hearing about lawsuits against Apple for their dodgy tactics, so why does Micro$oft get away with it?

It isn't Windows using Bing as your default, it is your browser. Firefox has Google as its default, but you can change that. The browsers frequently ask if you want to change your default if it is not the one you are using. On Firefox, you can change search engines by Tools>settings>search The top item on the page is Default Search Engine.

I have no reasons/excuse to use Bing. I 'happy' without it -so what is next?

Bing is the search engine, Firefox is the browser (the MS equivalent is Edge)

I made Google my default search engine. I know there are probably better alternatives, but Google works for me. I avoid Bing only because it's from MS, although I do use Edge because I've read good things about it compared with Chrome.

It seems odd that you would deliberately avoid a MS product but deliberately use Google. Which one is the most intrusive thief of personal data?

Not for me. My default search engine - deep in the bowels of Edge - is set to Google, just as is the default search engine in windows settings... So, why does does it keep using Bing?

Yes, I know. Human beings are rational, but only up to a point. If you're looking for a huge company that can do it all and really cares about its customers, you'll have to wait until we find intelligent life on another planet. The name of the game on earth is, "Make as much money as you can, any way you can." There is no real protection for the citizens. Big Business is king.

You've gotta show your computer who's boss!

Right-click on the Start button, click on System, and enter Default in the search box. That will let you designate various default apps.
