Got out yesterday for some practice, today can't even find the sun. I knew i wanted f8 and 200 iso, just a matter of speed.
Both auto focus I trust more than my eyes. I'm going for the same settings for the duration, maybe.
I won't be in totality but I'll take 99.94%. Both 100% crop .jpg's SOC
"Both auto focus I trust more than my eyes."
Oh, Autofocus at infinity vs infinity plus 1 foot....!!!
Perhaps set your camera on manual with your best exposure settings... and of course, the speed at at least 125 to stop any hand/camera movement... the sun does not dance much...
If you will get to 99.94% where you are, you owe it to yourself to travel a bit to find totality. It's an other-worldly experience that you will miss almost completely, even at 99.94%.
A 99.94% eclipse is to totality as a teacup is to the ocean.
I would suggest disabling both auto focus and auto exposure functions on the camera. We know the answer right here and now. The sun is at infinity for any practical lens and the exposure with your choice of solar filter is fixed. The distance to the sun and the brightness of the sun isn’t going to change. Anything the automatic systems change is wrong. Turn them off. AKA Manual.
