I take pictures to preserve things I and others would be interested in. And I do it to create articles and catalogs.

Sometimes I arrive at just the right time when a thousand images will surely capture something.

I enjoy taking photography. I have been involved in photography since I was 14, in 1963.

jamesl,

Wees about the same age, possibly switched at birth? Near age 10, probably near Easter or Christmas, when my parents annually splurged by taking 12 pictures, I saw the insert from a Kodak film canister box laying on the cabinet near of the kitchen sink. It contained instructions on picture composition, specifically how to avoid locating background vertical tree limbs directly behind human heads, to avoid the antler effect. I studied it. This explains to me why I'm so good at composition!

I wish you well. David B

How uncomfortably close to the truth.

You got my hopes up! I went to check out your stuff in the gallery. I’m thinking that Kodak pamphlet didn’t cover everything. 😜🤪

I do photography mainly as a hobby, as an art. Something to do to entertain myself, to capture moments and memories and beautiful and scenic places.

My purpose in Photography?

To make money, so I can buy more photo gear that will allow me to make even more money.

I also struggle with multiple personalities, uh, I mean purposes. So I need a lot of photo junk to appease each one of them.

In short, I have a creative itch, photography scratches it.

I have asked myself this recently and I am reading a book that among other things, promises to “ and finish with how to find your purpose in photography.”

That is a bold claim and something I have asked myself more than once. There is no single answer of course, because it is subjective subject.

So I am curious, what do readers here say in response to “What is your purpose in photography?“

Interesting question. I have to admit I've asked the same thing. I recently returned to photography after decades of being away from it. It is a hobby, but I went to school in another life. While encouraged to pursue a career, I didn't have the courage to leave my profession. It wasn't the right time.

In a nutshell, this is who I am. Photography takes me to my happy place when this crazy world can take me down. Photography and my writing fills my soul and give me a joy I have seldom known. I love capturing moments, even when they are challenging me, and I sometimes get to share them! In a way, it has also taught me a lot about life. Hey, it brought me here to this place where I finally feel I sort of fit in with others who are creative. My wildlife stuff is just an extension of my childhood, as I always loved animals. Now, I get to interact and play with them again! With the time left, I want to get good enough to supplement my income and retire! I've loved most of my career (burned out once), and it was where I was meant to be then, but the creative part is and always has been who I am! I want: Do what you love, and you never work a day!

There, that's my answer! The curse of being a Speech Pathologist is that you have to be able to give details, so my apologies for the longwinded answer! I will need to take an editing course

Thanks for asking this. I think I needed to define this for myself.

As a pro event photographer, my passion is to capture important moments in one of my client's biggest days in their lives. In short - give them a key to their memory vault.

Do this with a vision that melds art and photo journalism. Visual stories are strongest in creating that key.

I have read every post and I will read them again. They are truly inspirational, and I have learned so much about this passion of mine, things that I did not even know things that we share and love. Thank you all for taking the time to share you thoughts.
