first download and run Glary utilities , run 1 click maintenance
select registry cleaner, shortcuts fixer, temp file cleaner , and last start up manager.
Then allow it to correct any problems it finds.
Then try and do your install. This program cleans out LOTS of crap from your computer. ( I run it once a week its amazing how much stuff it finds) just get the free version for now
Ok if that didnt help in the box at the bottom of your windopws hoe screen restore to previous time. Then follow the prompts to set your system to a time when it was working ok....
if you didnt do any restore points in the past
... are you logged in as administrator??? if not you must be to update...
next I have sent a lot of people to this page, it helps

If non of this helps, let us know I have a friend that can pretty much get most problems solved that MS tech cant...
I can check with him..... but it usually takes a few days to get an answer...

Did you delete Kaspersky before updating or did try to just shut Kaspersky down until the upgrade was done? A lot of programs recommend that anti-virus programs should be shut down before installing new updates or new programs. I'm just curious because I use Kaspersky on older OS's like Windows 7. If I ever change Windows 7 OP's to Windows 10 or 11 I might want to keep this problem in mind, but I would probably use a new computer to use 10 or 11.

I tried shutting down everything listed in Kaspersky, didn't change anything. There was a part in the cloud, a database of known acceptable firms, which I had to turn off to activate Topaz Photo and Video A.I., kept getting the message that Activation Token couldn't be validated. Interestingly no problem with other Topaz products.

I worked, like many, with a lot of computers at work and have seen a lot of strange things like getting the message "insufficient file space" because there was too much available, I thought maybe that was an issue as I had two 18tb drives attached, but I disconnected all external drives. I once had a script fail because the program interpreted the file name as the STOP command. PowerPoint once show a file in the preview window, but said it didn't exist when we tried to open it and so on.

This one was a the worse for me. I rarely use office so I just accepted that issue, but not being able to install this years Turbo was a real issue.

Obviously, at least to me, there is some subtle difference in how Turbo tax 2023 and Microsoft connect for updates compared to all other programs including previous versions of Turbo Tax (2022 and back). The interaction may be particular to Win 11as my wife's computer (Win 10, won't accept 11) using the same Kaspersky on same network had none of these problems.

There are diagnostic systems which can sit between 2 systems to catch everything that transpires, as I remember not cheap, never had one. I know shutting down other programs and antivirus programs before installation of new programs is always recommended, I never have and have never had an issue until now. I shut down everything had plenty of free disk space, turned off everything else on network, used the same internet port on the modem, waited three times until 2 a.m. when internet speed is highest and no data limits, reinstalled Turbo Tax, loaded updates manually (but couldn't activate), used Command line access to check for file errors, etc. Nothing worked but uninstalling Kaspersky. I have found their support to be excellent so I will call after I reinstall it and see what happens.

Thanks for responding, advice and listening;
Jim

I am asking if anyone has had this specific problem:

My computer will not update windows, run the Assist program (allows someone else to run your computer) or activate any Microsoft software. I have tried every trick mentioned on the web, troubleshoot, repair, etc. After two hrs with Microsoft support, they finally sent a copy of Windows which was to install and repair while leaving apps intact, but no effect. I tried installing a new copy of 11 Pro, but again can't activate it. I know of software which will move apps to a new computer and software which will mirror the system (if a software issue, then that will be mirrored also). At this point, buying a new one, moving everything, then wiping the old one (3 yrs old, gaming system), installing new operating system seems like the only solution. Except for doing the same thing with Turbo Tax 2023, the computer works fine.

I don't wish to start an endless dialogue here, just asking has anyone had this same problem. All error messages say I'm not connected to the web. Tried updating at 2-5 am when Hughes Net is fastest, but no help there.

Thanks;
Jim

Windows 11 Pro is a pay for version of windows 11. You can install it but if it not activated, you can not update. Also some lower standard PC's and laptops will not work with Windows 11 Pro. You may have a windows 10 and don't know it, some computers are sold at a cheaper price for that even today... check in your menu to see.

Win 11 works fine. I loaded Pro successfully but it says license key is invalid so it's not working, computer works fine with it there. I purchased it from Woot and have contacted them about the issue. Waiting for reply.
Thanks;
Jim

You should be able to download the ISO (free) from Microsoft and use your Win 10 activation code for the upgrade. BTW, if you update a non eligible machine (CPU, secure boot or TPM), you can install, but not update.
