I got the same thing in the mail. Medicare was hacked and certain umbers was stolen. I got my new card about two months ago. I’m surprised they did not state that in your letter. With me they sent a letter first then the new card showed up. Hope this explains it.

I got a new card yesterday and the letter stated “ we found an issue with your Medicare Number”. To protect you we’re giving you a new card with a new Medicare Number”.!if you have questions call Medicare.

In today's mail, I had a letter from the government... Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The letter began with: "You now have a new Medicare Number and your previous Medicare Number is no longer valid. Your new Medicare card is inside." It further informs me that the new card/number is effective April 2 and that I should inform my providers of the change.

I have no idea why they would replace my Medicare card and assign me a new/different number.

Has this happened to any of you UHHers?

My guess is that part of the new number is a flag to doctors and hospitals that... this old guy has cost us enough money... treat him accordingly... been nice communicating with you UHHers.
In today's mail, I had a letter from the governmen... (show quote)

I would call 1(800) Medicare (the number should be on the back of your original card) and inquire as to the veracity of the letter. I have had phone scammers ask if I have received my new Medicare Card. WHat you describe sounds like a written version of it. Call Medicare ASAP.

Before you do anything.call Medicare using the number on your old card or one their EOBs and determine whether they did indeed send you a new number and then go from there.

I also received a new card. A few months ago I noted 4 charges (all the same amounts for different dates) to my Medicare statement for an issue that I never had or experienced. The charges totaled over $20,000 and were paid by Medicare. I notified them that ther were bogus...
