The Black electrical tape is a good idea, except that you'll also need a pair of scissors. However, black 'gaffers' tape might be better as you can tear that.

and no sticky residue with gaffers tape.

You sound...uninformed.

A .454 Casull will stop any Bear...any. A 250 grain bullet hitting a Bear at 1900 fps...is going to end the situation just as well as any rifle can.
I think a better solution is use gaffers tape and wrap the bears paws up quickly if he attacks. That way no one, man, woman or bear gets hurt.

I would say a bit extreme, but on the other hand considering the division of the country you never know what will pop off, sometimes just minding your own business doesn't work.

10mm may be just a little mor, but not enough more, effective than .45. Most effective option is 12 ga. shotgun located alternately wit 00 buck shells and 12 ga. slugs. Pistols just piss off the bear. In which the pistol may be more effective to shoot yoursel and avoid the mauling. Please report if you survive.

A lot of consensus for a pistol points to a 44 magnum with hard cast bullets, 305-340 grains. Hard cast bullets because what is needed is penetration. You need to hit the bear in the chest and have the bullet exit the rear hopefully breaking the pelvis along the way. The 12 gauge shotgun is also excellent but it's harder to carry around and perhaps harder to bring into action. The 45 is great for stopping a human but not a 400-600 pound bear. When hunting the best scenario would be to have a partner standing ready while you tend to any downed game.

Well for me I would never be in any of those type of situations. If I was to ever go to someplace that remote…. Nope it’s not ever it’s never. I carry daily to work, walking around, and always when I have an event in any city. But….. that’s me

These responses bring a whole new dimension to the phrase "out shooting".

Do you guys also put a camera in you gun kit when you go to the range? ;) Just wondering.

Matter of fact I do. Small kodak digital, these days to record the event ie: Success/failures

I did too toward the end of the sixties in San Francisco. Then switched to a Walther PPK.
