A young man and woman that were married last weekend are like a son and daughter to my wife and I us, and did not want us [My wife and I are Davenport Projex Photography] to be working that day - I did bring my Hasselblad X2D and shoot some images on the fly. While it's obvious in three of the images I just posted of Carmen and Sampson and their Wedding Party were not posing for my shoot - the quality of my favorite camera is evident.

Image Specs. [All with Hasselblad X2D and Hasselblad 45p F4]

1. 1/45th, F4.8, ISO 64

2. 1/45th, F4.8, ISO 64

2. and 3. 1/30th, F4.0, ISO 64

A little tip for you when setting up the standard wedding party shot. You did well, if you did in fact, tell the guys to put their hands in the trouser pockets. However, it is best to also have them close their jackets as well because you can often get all sorts of white gaps showing when opened. This is disturbing to the viewer, even if the viewer does not notice it.

The next mistake was that you put the guys in line with their hands, if you did that, rather than them doing it themselves without being told to, but you neglected the girls. What you must remember to do is to set the brides flower height and then tell the girls you will be coming down the line with your hand at a set height and they must all have their flowers up to the point of the height of your hand. Not lower, not higher, but at exactly at the height you tell them to be at.

Flowers all at the same height would have greatly improved the quite good photo you produced. There is so much that goes into very good wedding photography, that most people and photographers never even thought about. That attention to such details in each photo that can be staged/setup, is what makes the difference between a photographer shooting a wedding and a very good wedding photographer. Great job on the exposure, by the way. Remember that flower height in future.

Looking back at the group shots again, I just noticed that the group is not looking at you. Therefore, I now realize that you were not the wedding photographer, nor the one who set up the group. You were attending the wedding and just took the photo that the official wedding photographer was taking. Therefore, it was that official photographer who was the one that made those mistakes, so apologies for suggesting it was you. This just goes to show that even the official photographer was not getting the shot the best it could be, because of their lack of attention to details. His report card is, must try harder.
