Well you're off to a bad start imo, that you display ONLY looking for compliments INSTEAD of perhaps constructive criticism.. re: image ... WAY exaggerated by a simple template... aka, not appealing, your story is more appealing.

and IMO YOUR life history is NOT much different than MANY folks here... LIVE AND LONG PROSPER

Constructive criticism might have been "Dont quit your day job," but the OP indicates he is already retired. Que sera sera. It seems like saleable material so as retirement income all he needs is connections and some promotion.

Quite nice.

I think that every photo must have emotional impact in order to be successful - even photojournalism.

The accompanying poem furthers the emotional impact of this photo.

Lionsgate, I’m sorry your thread got hijacked by the tech pedants. That was not the topic, and yes, photography and poetry are both creative art forms, or can be. Keep it up and ignore the obsessive pixel-peepers.

I don't recall the exact year but it was very nearly the same year if not the same year that I got my first camera as well. A Kodak Brownie Star Flash. Not real positive, but I think it's still packed away somewhere. I'd sure like to find it and add it to my collection of the cameras I've used over the years. I have never done anything commercially but photography has been an important part of my life all these years. Especially in the days when I could spend outings with my father in law doing photography. That's a great buckboard shot. Good work!!

Your post brought to mind a photography exhibit I saw in OKC a couple of years ago.
Although it was sports photography, they were arranged by emotion, rather than sport, athlete, or such.

Rather than explain, here's a link. https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-736677-1.html
The show had been on my mind, as I understand it is touring now.

You may find it interesting, I did anyway.

I think it worth the effort to try to find emotion in the photo. While I do not write poetry, I also think that "striving" to create is a worthwhile cause. I once saw a man in China who wrote calligraphy in water on the sidewalk. No sooner would he be done and have to start over. The effort was to "perfect" his work and possibly to have a zen moment of mindlessness.

In this case, while I think the photo needs some work, I think striving for the art succeeded. It is interesting to think of the people who used the wagon and now who are gone. Which is one reason my wife likes old homes...to think of the families raised there, the events, the kids.

We are all trying to get thought this life with as much happiness as possible. If looking at this wagon provides that then I am all for it. I also think some of us have a drive to create, which is what you did. And someday, you too will be gone and perhaps some heir will pick this up and read it. Who knows?

The technical part...better upload or something...sure. That can be fixed.
I think it worth the effort to try to find emotion... (show quote)

Apparently trite sells.

Maybe hijacked, but it seems more like a gallery post. Put it in the wrong place and it’s susceptible to technical critique.

I only said it looks salable, assuming sufficient promo and distribution. I never agreed that it expresses any emotion, or is in any way artful or original. Originality makes for rather pitifull sales anywho. IOW, we are on the same page. (I confess, wretched double entendre.) Trite is no barrier to sales. Kitten posters are hanging in zillions of cubicles.

Lionsgate, that is a vey touching poem about more than just a buckwagon. The story fit well with the photo. Perhaps you could give us the name of the book.

Thank you for the kind comment. I believe all artists, whether with a camera or brush, try to inspire the viewer. It is unfortunate that many people today use their camera for "selfies" rather than appreciate the world around them.

The name of the first book is "The Color of Summer and Other Poems". It is currently only available at the Huachuca Art Association Gallery in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Eventually I hope to have it published to a wider audience. You can see all of my published poems (with photographs) at www.lionsgatephoto.com. I have more poetry currently at the U.S. Copyright Office awaiting approval.
