Photographing and Viewing Eclipse around Buffalo

If the weather looks promising I plan to go to Buffalo for the eclipse. Might anyone who knows the area suggest good locations for this in terms of scenery and close to center of moon shadow (so maximum time of totality)? Thanks

EliotN, How far away are you from Buffalo and do you have a place to stay. If you don't have hotel or motel room now you won't be able to find one within 30 miles of Buffalo.

Buffalo has some great old architecture and some terrific old grain elevators and of course we are right on the Lake Erie waterfront. Many will be going to Niagara Falls which is just about 25 miles down the road and it is predicted that it will be a mob scene.

My plan is to setup a scene and then do a time-lapse video of the eclipse. I have a Nikon D7100 that I think will do well for this project, just have to learn how to do it ahead of time...any suggestions on technique.

I have zero interest in photographing the actual eclipse in that I don't have a long lens (not a birder) I will have a pair of glasses so that I may look at the eclipse while it is happening. Beside, every photo of an eclipse looks exactly like every other.

What have other member got planned if you live near the totalities path?

Take a look at this map.

http://xjubier.free.fr/en/site_pages/solar_eclipses/TSE_2024_GoogleMapFull.html?Lat=42.87178&Lng=-78.85601&Elv=179.0&Zoom=8&LC=1

Click anywhere on the map and a detail window will pop up showing exact times for that particular location.

I'll be watching it in Irving, Texas.

I live in a suburb of Buffalo. All the hotels and motels at this time appear to be book up for the eclipse. As far as viewing there are several parks. Google the towns of Cheektowaga, Amherst, West Seneca, Orchard Park, Lancaster, Depew and the city of Buffalo for parks. These areas are all within a couple miles of the city. I would suggest the suburbs over the city itself. There is plenty to see and of course Buffalo Chicken Wings (Duff's and the Anchor Bar).
If time permits take in Canelside and Buffalo River Works. If you get to Orchard Park you can get a few snaps of the new stadium being built across the street from the existing stadium.

Personally I would stay away from large cities as they could be jammed.

In 2017, we viewed the eclipse from York, Nebraska. This past October, we traveled to Hobbs, New Mexico for the annular eclipse. And for the upcoming eclipse, we're planning to see it from Lampasas, Texas.

Thanks for suggestions so far. I have an early morning plane flight and meeting a friend who has a hotel room. I was thinking of a park and avoiding the city. Looking at map Iroquis park seemed promising. Are you familiar with it?
