I ordered 2 Sd Cards, a standard card and a Mini SD card. It arrived exactly when they said it would by Fedex, but how it arrived surprised me. I thought it would be in a padded envelope, but instead, it arrived in a 3X12X9" box, wrapped in two layers of bubble wrap!!! I've ordered semi fragile items from some companies, where the items weren't wrapped as well.
B&H has an incredible service and shipping department, and it's no wonder why they enjoy such a great reputation.
I'm wondering, though, why they didn't send it in a padded envelope, which would be less expensive for them. Oh well, I guess they figure overkill is better than taking a chance of it being damaged during shipping. It's great store, great people, and incredible selection. Every time, I go into the city, it's my first stop, every time!
Yup, I get stuff from them, even hard drives and other gadgets.
(I'd rather support them than Best...)
Thank you Mikeazz and Longshadow for your continued support!
I can honestly say that I have never had a bad experience with B&H, either on line or in the store.

Thank you for your recent purchase, for this gracious comment and for your visits to the SuperStore.
Good selection, good pricing, good packaging, and fast delivery.

Yes, they are very convenient for me. I take the train into Penn Station, and walk up to 9th Ave., to their store. I also like and order from Adorama, but don't go to their store because it's less convenient, and a smaller store. You have to wait, usually, just to speak to someone, or make a return, but they sometimes have items/or less than B&H, and so I order by phone or online. Hunt's Photo, is another one of my favorites, and once in a while I go to Cameraland, in Bethpage.
They are extremely helpful, and never try to sell you something. In fact, one time they spent about 15 minutes helping me, and even cleaned my lens for free, without me asking!!! I felt so guilty, I bought something, to resolve my guilt.
Have a great weekend. Mike

I truly like B&H but I buy more from other sources. There is nothing wrong with B&H except their use of Fed-Up. They are one of the worst delivery services in my neck of the woods. If the package gets delivered at all I have to go hunt for it most of the time. I have mentioned this to Fed-Up and B&H to no avail. So I just stopped using any vendor that uses only Fed-UP

Have you checked the price of a padded envelope vs. the cost of a small box? You'll be surprised.
That right, the cost of the box is less expensive to buy and ship.

I too am a big fan of B&H, but to answer the actual question you actually asked:
It might be a question of logistics and efficiency in the warehouse (of which B&H has more than one). That is, while to you or me it might seem like overkill to wrap a couple of memory cards in a shoebox sized package, for the sake of efficiency in handling the warehouse in question might only carry a few sizes of packaging and as it happened, for your order that box was the smallest (or perhaps they were just out of padded envelopes and would not delay your shipment).
I agree with Cap_Dave. Fedex in my area is horrible. I get a text that a package is out for delivery and I can count on it coming the next day. Then they come up the front walk until they can see my step and throw it. They've turned around and headed back to the truck before the package hits the concrete. If it's raining it's often left out where it gets wet. I don't buy anything fragile, like camera equipment, from a firm that uses Fedex because I don't want it broken. They also sometimes leave the package outside the garage door where I am likely to back over it.
In addition to that I find that B&H puts the goods in a cardboard box, throws in some plastic packing material that may or may not fill the box, then seals and ships it. The goods are on the unprotected bottom of a cardboard box with the padding above it and nothing underneath. I understand they want to move stuff quickly but some of these things need a little bit of padding.
I buy from other places when I can or I drive to a store. Allen's Camera is 45 minutes away and I can stop at Hunt's right at I-91 on the way to New Hampshire.
