Here's the unit I've been using:
https://www.pixelhk.com/en/product/TW-283-3Note that this unit can be used either wireless or via a wired connection (I've used it both ways).
In terms of its intervalometer function, it works great, as you can see below with the composite image I created by merging a three-hour sequence of shots, taken every 10-minutes, of the October annular eclipse.

I have a Pixel Pro model TW-283 wireless remote control that I use with my D7200 and D500 cameras. There are a number of YouTube videos that show how to set it up and use it. The device can be set up for single shot shooting, continuous shooting, BULB shooting, Delay shooting and Timer Schedule Shooting. I was able to later purchase a separate cable to work with my D7200 as I originally bought the device to interface with my D500.
The Pixel TW-283 comes packages with a reasonable user manual. There are two battery driven parts to the kit each part holding 2 x AAA batteries. One is the receiver which can be mounted on a flash holder shoe and the other is the transmitter which you hold after configuring it to the desired firing mode. The frequency band used between the transmitter and receiver can be changed to remove the likelihood of interference from other units operating in the near vicinity by other photographers. The mounting foot of the receiver has a 1/4" socket recessed into it increasing its mounting versatility.
Yep, that's the unit I've been using, and which helped me take that eclipse sequence.

B&H offers several choices. For a remote, I use (and love) my Vello 10 pin which is now $ 72.50 @ B&H. (Vello is a B&H house brand!). Best of luck.
For the record, Vello is not a B&H house brand. Vello is one of the many brands under the Gradus Group umbrella long with Ruggard and Watson batteries. Many other photo dealers and retailers sell these products and many of the products are available on Amazon for example.
Personally, and through years of experience, I am from the school of Nikon-only on Nikon bodies. Therefore, in this case I would recommend either the wired Nikon NC-30 shutter release or the wireless WRT-10/R11a combo. For an intervalometer I would use the Nikon MC36A, or internal one in body.
I just purchased the Nikon MC-36A works with the Z8 and Z9. I got it at Adorama. It was $159.00

I recently purchased a Nikon Z8 and am interested in a remote shutter release that will reduce possible shaking during shooting and also provide for an intervalometer function. I have looked at many on Amazon and elsewhere but so many of them seem to have so many poor reviews for reliability and quality. I would appreciate input that other Hogs may have had with various remote shutter controls that are compatible with the Z8 (many of the ads for remote devices when I Google them do not seem to be up to date on applicability to the Z8. I have to presume that if it has the 12 contact device or is listed as working on the Z9, it must also work on the Z8, but I may be wrong.)
Thank you.

What Nikon did: They don't support Bluetooth remotes (like the ML-L7 I use with my Z6ii/Z7ii). They angled the 10-pin connector so cables interfere with L-brackets.
At any rate, the WR-R11 or WR-R10/A10 will work with the Z8/Z9. I still have mine, but I only use the ML-L7 these days so I don't have to fiddle with connecting to camera ports.
If you want an intervalometer, I use the Pluto Trigger, which is programmed by the phone. It connects via cable to the camera, but can be remotely operated as a trigger or programmable intervalometer. I like the ability to change interval programming on the fly. I use it when I'm doing bracketed intervals.
