Keep your receipts.

My son was stopped years ago because a headlight was burned out.  He had a week to buy a new bulb, install it, and bring the receipt to the town clerk.  Since I had bought the bulb months before, I had no receipt.  That caused a problem with the town clerk.  The rule says I must show a receipt.  After some back and forth, she accepted the fact that both headlights worked. 😂

Years ago I bought a new car and went to the DMV to get plates. Back then in IL. you had to show last years registration to get new plates. When the clerk said, "I need to see last years registration" I said "There is none, it's a new car". She told me that if I didn't have last years registration, she couldn't give me new plates. This went on for a half an hour until the boss came back from lunch. She almost threw the new plates at me.

Many years ago I worked for a California insurance company and went to the Texas Department of Insurance to register a new insurance company to be headquartered in Texas. We had all the paperwork, signed, notarized, and all the corporate officers. The corporate officers were on hand if needed for any additional verification.

The TDI official reviewed all the paperwork - once - twice, sighed and said these are all originals. I need 'Original Copies.' So we all went down to Kinkos or whatever and made original copies of each original document.

Took everything back to TDI, the official looked at the originals, compared them to the original copies. They all looked the same. Then he was happy.

I’m an amateur radio operator (ham). Some years ago I went to the county tax office to renew the ham plates on one of my vehicles that had them. The clerk looked at my form and said you can only have one set with the same number. Texas allows up to 6 vehicles with the same number (call sign) if all owned by the same person. She said she couldn’t renew the plates. I tried yo explain that to her to no avail. Finally told her to call DMV if she didn’t believe me. She did. The only sid of the conversation I heard was her saying, “oh really; I didn’t know that”, etc.. I got my plates renewed. Now if I could get the txtag (toll road) office to get their act together. My call sign ends in I. Their system doesn’t end in I or O, so it is listed as 1 on their record. Works okay for a while till it’s time to renew the tags; then here we go again!

There's nothing worse then a bureaucrat...except maybe a bureaucrat spouting unclear rules.

What is an original copy? There is the original and there is a copy but the copy is not an original and the original is not a copy. Is the original copy the first copy made of the original? What about the second copy? If the first copy is lost or damaged would the second copy be acceptable as the original copy? I'm confused.

Due to the fact that I live in Texas, AMEN! I went to an office to get my new registration and I had a confirmed time of 2PM, but was there early, I went up to the window and they directed me to the waiting area where I sat and waited for 20 minutes. There were no other customers for any of the three clerks and one woman was on her phone the whole time with her sister about a reunion they were planning. Should have stayed in Va.

An original copy is one that you can still read, or recognize the subject, or contains all the info on the first sheet of paper. Boris
