I'm in the market for a new monitor. I'm thinking a 27'' somewhere in the $250 - $350 range. Anyone have any recommendations?

Although your specified price range is somewhat limiting, I suggest you search for an IPS backlit LED monitor over the old LCD TFT type. Forget about professional grade monitors since they run in the thousands. Dell, Asus, and Samsung monitors will be more in your price point. I use both the ASUS PA-248Q (24") and the ASUS PA-278Q (27"). I highly recommend you look at them but the PA-278Q may be just above your price range.
The IPS type monitors have a wider viewing area, brighter contrast and many have TRUE-COLOR and come pre-calibrated with a factory certificate and graph for sRGB standard format. Resolutions are either 1080P or better and responce times are typically excellent for both photo and gaming.
May I suggest you shop from an online supplier that doesn't have facilities in your state so you save the tax charges and most suppliers have free shipping. TigerDirect B&H and Amazon I think are out of state for you and therefore tax free. Best price presently is around $320 for the 24" model and retail is $399. ASUS also has a full 5 year replacement warranty as well.
