Beautiful dog. My eldest son and family have their second shepherd, Jango. He is a bit neurotic but such a nice, faithful and loveable fella. My wife is not a pet person but she even likes Jango and throws his toys for him to fetch.
They are very lovable and intelligent. This fellow from day one also loved human toddlers and just seemed to know to be gentle with them. Thank you for looking and commenting!

Great Story - - it's a shame the OP hasn't returned to the thread.
Beautiful puppy - will be yours for life. I suspect OP meant 75 Kg (100#)
Yep - they get big fast, and will eat you out of house and home.
And the Good Lord will be needed for anyone who messes with you.
Sorry it took so long to get back. Lots going on at my end. I guess I threw a few people with that 1000 kilogram thing. Yes, he already eats a ton (I'll leave the jokes out this time). As of 2 Fridays ago, he weighed in at 75 lbs (imperial). He is bulking up well. The average for this type of German shepherd is between 80 and 88 lbs. I think he will fall into that range.

Thanks, Don! I think this is what my wife and daughter intended. Lol.

He's a beauty Tom. You can always see that a recue dog really appreciates being given a loving home and care.
Thank you, Jo! Julie says the same thing as you and how horribly things could have gone for Lionel if he hadn't been picked up by animal control. It makes her cringe just thinking about it. She just adores him. As for me, he ate a pair of my underwear right before he went to camp. Julie says "Hello!".

They must have thought you needed some major distracting if they got you a German Shepherd puppy! But obviously his training is going well and once he grows up he'll be the steadiest companion you could want. Congratulations. And don't neglect to share more photos of Lionel. Which, by the way, is a great name.
I think you are right! This my 3rd one. Got her in 1972. Got the 2nd one in 1986. So, I guess I like German shepherds.

On Sunday, 1 October, 2023, I retired. My oldest daughter and my wife conspired to get me a dog. I really didn't want one. I wanted to see what it was like to be able to sleep in on a weekday. They both knew that I liked German Shepherds. They just happened to find a purebred at a local rescue shelter. He was going on 4 months of age. They showed me a picture. Damn it! we now have a German Shepherd puppy who just turned 9 months old and is now 75 lbs (1000 kilograms).

Just this Friday, he graduated doggie boot camp. His name is Lionel and he is something else. All in a good way. He loves us to death. How anyone could ever hurt an animal is beyond me. All they want is a little love and they will give that love back a thousand fold.

That is a good size. My dog is 96 pounds and all muscle so can pull like a tractor if he wants to go in a particular direction. Good luck with your dog, they are wonderful creatures.

Same with my father, he was cursed by the obligating gift of a mutt that must have had a lobotomy performed by a flea.

Free of his job, he was confined by taking care of a dog. Men find things to occupy them beyond a mutt child.

THIS BELONGS IN THE CHAT CATEGORY.

Great story and great photo. I’m convinced rescue animals are aware of what’s going on and how lucky they are to have found a good home,
I hope Lionel is part of your family for many years
