You are either painting yourself as naïve or not aware of the internet and the childish behavior on said internet. Most likely it is what is often referred to as trolling. I'm not poking fun at you. I would expect a different manner of discourse from one with an MFA from RISD (Road Island School of Design) and I'm certain your graduate committee would expect the same.

I'm not online that much and when I am, pretty much just Instagram and a few forums where people tend to behave themselves. I know about trolls but just don't frequent the same undersides of bridges as them I suppose.

So it appears I'm one of the few photographers to post male nudity here and I have had some very positive feedback on the images I've posted and a few people who said quite literally "this forum should only be for female nudes". That's exactly what one guy said—indeed, he specified young, pretty, female nudes. I was very surprised in this day and age that in a forum about serious nude or semi-nude photography of the body someone would declare it should only focus on female work and you kind of have to wonder if these guys who said such are really interested in photography or more interested in ogling pretty ladies. Because it sounds like that's all that interests them here, all they wish to see.

Back to the issue of penis vs. vagina, I've seen other photographers here post full frontal female nudes. You are seeing what you'd see if you walked in and the lady was nude. In my work, you see full frontal male nudes. In neither case are you seeing porn or direct suggestion of sexual activity, so I think it's on the same level.

I would hope as long as this form is labeled "Nude Photography, Boudoir Photography, NSFW, Discussions and Pictures" then it allows both female and male and all manner of tasteful erotic photography of adults.
So it appears I'm one of the few photographers to ... (show quote)

There has been a few males in the past including me. A year or so ago I wanted to have some fun after a lady member asked why more men don't do anything, Sooooooo, I did, just for fun and MAN OH MAN did I stir up the litter box.
No penis vivible, but at my age would have been hard to find anyway hahahha.
Dude I GOT tons of views and some comments of all kinds. Kinda wants me to do it again just keep the crowd worked up.
Welcome to UHH.

Michelanglo's art was banned as obscene depending on what Pope was in power.

Is there a double standard here?

One can post self-portrait with a penis visible but showing a vagina is deemed obscene by some.

Pray tell, what is the difference? Both are sex organs, nothing more, nothing else.

I do not see the point of showing either. If you allow one but refuse the other, you are wrong.

Pushing the obscenity to its extreme, a naked breast, man or woman is way too sexualized, so both should be banned or both accepted. The hypocrisy over women's breasts is baffling to me.

As a time to time contributor of content to this section of the forum, I think there are sliding scales of appropriateness for both penises and vaginas.

Without sinking into a quagmire of detailed definition, I think both male and female sexual organs can be displayed in a vulgar manner. I think they can also be naturally exposed in artistic poses.

Between those two extremes there are varying shades of exposure which each individual viewer will have to personally evaluate. Opinions will inevitably vary.

Personally, I have seen real photographic craft revealed in some very explicit images. That said, historically this forum section has not been dedicated to critiquing and educating pornographers for the improvement of their work.

To me, pornography is mostly determined on intent: if designed to arouse and entertain in that way, it's porn. However, I can see a tasteful, erotic, photo which contains in example an erection or a woman in a very suggestive pose and not porn but still clearly an image for an adult audience and NSFW all the way. Ren Hang and other photographers who without any doubt are canonically considered as fine artist have had very erotic content in their work.
