I noticed a while ago an aftermarket batteries made for the latest Nikons.

What is noticeable about them is that they are charging with a USB-C cable.

I purchased one to test and... It works just fine.

I shot a couple of thousands of pictures with it in 'burst mode' just to see.

USB-C is ubiquitous and worming its way into everything, and I am not unhappy about this. One charger does it all. I use a 240W charger... I use it with my laptop (XPS 17), GPS device, headphones among other things.

Anyway, as far as the USB-C Nikon batteries, it is a weight saver when traveling as only one 'regular' USB-C charger is needed.

They are made by SmallRig ID 4332 and can be found on Amazon Use with Z8 / Z7 / Z6, USB-C Z7 II, Z6 II, Z5, D850, D810, D810A, D780, D750, D610, D500, D7500-4332

Another version exists for other Nikon cameras.

I am in the process of throwing old chargers in the trash - in many cases I have no idea what they were for. It is to end this waste that the USB-C mandate exists.

Update on this battery...

It works, no issue and last just about the same as a Nikon OEM.

I believe the EU forced Apple to USB-C too.

That was part of it.
The other was the definition itself.
Universal Serial Bus?
With many different ends, some will charge on;y, some data only.
And some expletive marketeers would change the wire's layout.
A standard usb cable could fry your device!
That usb-c ruling helped us all. With phones, cameras, PCs, etc.

I dont give a ratzazz if its sold by Mother Teresa. I rather deal with B&H, as would almost anyone. So I posted that B&H is a vendor of the brand, necessary becuz you neglected to do so.

IOW, always choose B&H over Amazon whenever B&H has the product. Why ???
1• Cuz I say so.
2• Cuz youll be glad you did.
3• See reason number 1.

Dont buy batteries from me. Buy from B&H.

If I order from B&H the item is usually on my doorstep the next day.

If I order from Amazon directly (not a vendor) the item is usually on my doorstep the next day, but sometimes the same day.

FedEx is even getting better. Our new FedEx driver even learned how to ring a doorbell.

All three make returns easy, although I seldom need to return anything.

Not sure what the vendor issue is, but ok, whatever.

The point is these batteries are convenient, work as well as the Nikon OEM.

Yes, I've seen those batteries. It's a good idea - I think.

I wouldn't buy from Amazon if I can buy it from B&H. Amazon does sell stuff that are hard to find else where.

I always worry about using an aftermarket battery and putting it in a $6,000.00 camera to save 50 bucks. but yes I have done it with some cameras. I love the idea that it charges with USB. thats a great idea, my question is, how long did it take to charge.

Same as OEM with dedicated charger. Note that I use a 240W USB-C charger adapter for all my devices , phone,, -book, batteries and even when I use my XPS dell laptop.

That the two are neck to neck for a much lesser price is the reason for my update on this old thread.

Right! I don't pay sales tax at B&H, and that has saved me quite a bit. B&H sells a lot more than cameras and computers. I always check there before ordering from Amazon. They deliver faster, too.
