My walk around is a Canon 5D MarkIV. I think that may be too big. My son has an Olympus Micro Four Thirds. He loves it.
Hey! Wait a minute! Stop into B&H on West 34th Street and 9th Avenue. Check hours before hand. Be prepared to be amazed!

And Erp1938, B&H will give you professional advice on a quality small camera. Plus you'll be able to test it to see if it is the right camera for you.
Good luck and enjoy your trip to NY
I use a Sony RX100 VII with great success. I've also used a Nikon A900 when we went to Italy a few years ago with great success. I think that there are a plethora of cameras could use depending on your budget.

Do a little research, like going to dpreview.com and checking reviews and recommendations. LUMIX ZS series, Canon G1x iii, Canon G5x ii, G7x, Sony HX99 & RX100 series, etc. Biggest potential issue is finding new in stock. Check the used market like KEH, MPB, Robert’s, etc.

If you have an iPhone Pro Max model from the last few years, take that.
Unfortunately, you need to narrow your definition to get an answer that REALLY works for you:
Define small.
Define budget.
Define good.
What are the end uses of the images? Social media? Family albums? Illustrations in a magazine ad? Training content?
What subject matter will you photograph?
Are you making the trip specifically TO photograph in New York?
What is your level of photographic knowledge/experience?
Do you have existing equipment? If so, what?
Do you want interchangeable lenses?
Do you want a fashion statement or an econobox?
Without knowing these sorts of things, we're just guessing.
First stop, B&H! Then you will be all set!

I would look at the Olympus TG 7 camera
Might get a better deal on a TG 6
Your trip is short term so this could also be your walk around in bad weather or near water

Kidding?! I still have my Chicago, LA, and Montreal cameras stashed away for when I go there again. It all about the gear!

Use you iPhone. Make sure you have it set to rake only RAW captures.
