Bad case of GAS, as already noted. You're wasting your time and money worrying about a better camera, instead of just worrying about taking better pictures.

Bad case of GAS but then is there a cure? You just have to live with it. So far the OP has been upgrading every 3-4 years. It's going to get worse not better.

Alas, the OP has failed to recognize they've been wasting money every 3 to 4 years .... especially after reaching the a7Riii, if not an earlier model. Moving on from this superior camera is just plan silly, aka GAS.

Reading you questions, sounds like your more questioning your financial situation for the trade. So is it gas you have do your current bodies not serving your needs is there something new and shiny capturing your eye, will that new camera make a difference in your images. All above questions only you can answer.

Disregard all the financial cautions. YOU know what YOU can and cannot afford. Your money is your money...spend it on whatever makes you happy. What good is money if you can't spend it? You only go around once.

The obvious choice is to sell all your Sony gear and buy a Canon. And when that most assuredly disappoints you switch to Nikon. 😜🤪

"Pay attention" ??!?!?!?? ROTFLMFAO.

I can skim ten pages all at once, like bingeing on a TV series. One only needs to see the first few lines of each post. The remainder of most posts is just blather and brain farts.

Also, without even checking even a few lines there are some avatars that tell me the entire content without reading anything at all. And such avatars will each appear multitudinously throughout the length of the thread.

I don't upgrade unless there is a type of photography I want to do that my current camera is not good at, and a higher model is good at.

Hi fellow photographers. I am a sony user.. and have all the lens(some high quality) so I am stuck..sort of with staying with sony(dont feel like starting from scratch). any whoo will keep it brief..
I have a 2 sony a7r iii cameras (one really backup) and usually upgrade every 3-4 years. I sort of want to get a newer sony but after over info reading.. not sure if I should. One concern is that if I wait.. the value of the camera will be not even worth selling..so upgrading will be more costly(count on the money I get from older camera to assist with newer on. was looking at a7r v .. but seems like the a7r iii is better with low light/less noise w higher iso. there are numerous other better aspects to the a7r v but looking at less expensive models (a7 iv .. ) as the a7r iv is an option.. I would just jump to a7r v if I would go that route. I sort of have the money but feeling that "Do I really need it?" I am content with the a7r iii and agree with most reviews (the auto focus would be a better keeper rate with portraits with a7r v but also a heavy national park lover ((not professional..yet!)) but a7 iv has same I believe but having an issue downgrading mp.

bottom line is do I take the loss and know that I will get very little for a7r iii when i do sell it(will eventually) or eat the higher cost of 7rv or take the mp loss as I do really know its not going to effect the way i take pictures.
add'l issue with the a7r v is the extra space I will need to store(again not really needed but i only shoot in uncompressed raw..because with digital .. this is the negative of the picture and want the highest available saved image. Fell free to attack me as I want advice.. and looking for criticism even if its rough

will still have one a7r iii a as back up (or can use for low light ....) and use a7r v or iv for flash / regular iso levels.

thank you for any input... this is mainly for a trip to mt rainier in july fyi

Sometimes you just have to scratch the itch. I'v owned the Riii, Riv and Rv. The only advantages I have found of the Rv over the Riv is focus stacking, motion correction in high resolution mode (doesn't work well for plant wind motion), and shutter protection for the sensor when changing lenses. The only advantages of the Riv over the Riii is more megapixels. In retrospect, I wish I had not upgraded from the Riii, but I had this itch.

I had an itch on my ankle the other day so I scratched it. When I got up the next morning I had to spray the sheet with hydrogen peroxide to get rid of a blood spot.

Everything has consequences.

If you can't make great pictures with the fine cameras you have, you won't make great pictures with a different camera.
Re-read what you wrote.
Then go back and look at your pictures, try to honestly figure out what you find lacking, chances are it will not be more equipment.
Buy Jay Maisel's book 'It's not about the f/stop'. Go to a museum with good photography. Find a photographer whose work you admire, take a workshop, buy their book.
Look at the pictures people make with phones......pictures are about vision , not equipment
If you TRY that, I will bet you will be happier than buying a new camera or worrying about your current camera's resale value
We have ALL been where your question comes from.
Sincere Good luck

I ask myself, what is it I want to achieve that my present gear can not deliver, then how often is this. Will a new body get me there or different lens. perfect what you can with what you have to the best of your ability and you will answer your own questions.

if you’re unsure, I recommend you just save your money until you’re sure.

Sounds like you have great equipment and if you're going to print I could see the need not only for newere cameras and lenses but a new high quality printer. If this is the case I would say a Fuji GFX 150 with a set of prime lenses and maybe a zoom or two would surface. Now printers, a lot of really high quality 24" to 72" 12 color printers out there from Epson and Canon plus a few others, Dye Sublimation is also a possibility. However if you're not printing examine what you have right now and if the shutter count on the bodies is less than 200k it's probably a juse excessive accusation.
