Newest, fastest but for how long? Sandisk extreme pro will store 2 tb. At little over a couple of hundred dollars at Amazon, too much money for me but this is this week's newest and fastest

There appears to be some some significant issues with SanDisk Portable SSD external hard drives including outright failure as well as wiping disks. Attached is a link to an article that goes into more detail:

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/05/sandisk-extreme-ssds-keep-abruptly-failing-firmware-fix-for-only-some-promised/

Additional: "SanDisk’s Extreme and Extreme Pro portable SSDs have been causing headaches for users, with sudden data wipes and, in some cases, drives becoming unreadable. These complaints have persisted for at least four months, and SanDisk has acknowledged the issue, promising a firmware fix that is expected to arrive “soon” However, it’s important to note that the firmware update has been confirmed only for the 4TB models, despite reports of issues with the 2TB drives as well.

Thanks for this. I had been looking at one of those. Glad procrastination helped me.

I would suggest that you look into Samsung T7 or T9, which are available from B&H for as low as $165 right now for the 2 TB version. I have both a T5 and a T7 which I have used for tethered shooting for more than a few years. Very reliable. Best of luck.

Make sure your computer ar tablet has the ability to read and write at the speeds that the hard drive offers. If not you are spending extra money for nothing. The drive will work but not at the speed your computer is capable of.

I had a Sandisk 1 TB ssd, not reliable at all, replaced it with two 2 TB Samsung T7's that were $165 CDN at Best Buy in Canada. The T7's seem to be quite robust and have not had any errors, use one as a Time Machine and the other for moving large transfers from NAS storage to other places.

I will continue to buy the Samsung's and will be staying away from any more Sandisks

You just asked this identical question on a thread several days ago (https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-801210-1.html), and I posted a number of links to SanDisk SSD failures. I suggested a Samsung T7 or T9, and as I replied then, If you’re committed to SanDisk, I believe there are 4 models from fastest and most expensive to slowest and least expensive. All are Amazon prices:

SanDisk Professional 2TB. 3,000 MB/sec max. Thunderbolt interface. $248
SanDisk Professional 2TB. 2,000 MB/sec max. USB-C 3.2 interface. $219
SanDisk Extreme 2TB. 1050 MB/sec max. USB-C 3.2 interface. $155
SanDisk Portable 2TB, 520MB/sec max. USB-C 3.2 interface. $119

This is a different approach but I buy SSK m.2 enclousures and put in my old samsung pro 970-990 SSDs. Everytime I upgrade one of my SSDs in my laptop, the old one becomes my new portable. I stick with the samsung SSDs because they are very reliable.
