Lightroom does not like me anymore. When I want to edit a photo, usually I have a time constraint, I run into an editing problem. I click on Lightroom and poof, it whites out on me. I wait a bit and try again. Then I receive a message " lightroom is not responding". So, what is a person supposed to do? I've gravitated to Adobe Camera Raw, but I miss Lightroom. How do I stop Lightroom's hatred of my wanting to use it.
Photoshop question= I've never used photoshop but would like to start. I have a subscription for the editing software. Just looking at the main page is mindboggling. There are so many icons. Is it possible to print out a cheat sheet to help with navigating all those little icons?
I discovered a wealth of photo info on YouTube. There is a slew of info to watch about photography; B&W. macro, landscape, gear, travel, etc..All the videos are led by professional photographers. Try it out. It's free.
Thanks ! Trying to better myself but I'm exasperated !

I still use LR6.14 stand alone , non subscription. When doing a lot of local editing, & (localized brush work slows my computer& my screen acts up) my 7 year old 4 core intel pc kind of acts the same. Sometimes it helps if I go to the top left menu. = click Edit, from the drop down menu, click on preferences, a window opens. At the top choose file handling & scroll down to purge cache. This might help & I do it sometimes more than once while editing a photo. I try to do it before exiting out of LR when I remember. Hope this helps.

If you're subscribing to Adobe software, you have access to Adobe technical support who can help diagnose and resolve this issue. Use it.

What CHG_CANON said. Sounds to me like you have a computer issue, but you gave us no information to assist you. Best of luck.

I've found Adobe tech support to be prompt and professional.

"Lightroom does not like me anymore."

Adobe's Lightroom Classic forum is here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic/ct-p/ct-lightroom-classic?page=1&sort=latest_replies&lang=all&tabid=all

Adobe's preferred tech support via online chat is here: https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?rghtup=autoOpen

Lightroom Classic runs well on millions of computers. Rather than assume there is a Lightroom "bug" it is better to assume that something is wrong with the computer itself. It can be everything from corrupted files to failing RAM.

"Photoshop question= I've never used photoshop but would like to start."

Don't try to "learn it". Instead learn find and learn one function you want to use. For example, you want to remove a tourist from a favorite travel photo. Then find another thing to try. Do it one at a time. Nobody ever learns all off Photoshop.

Fullly Agreed...bsprague

Photoshop is so overwhelming that what you have offered is a very good approach...

Also what CHG_CANON said. You could have a corrupted file or your computer could be underpowered for the latest LRC update. More and more and more AI requires computing power to function. My computer is 2 years old with a good video card plus 42GB of RAM and sometimes I can hear the cooling fans revving up.

If you want to learn Photoshop, you might try Adobe Photoshop Classroom in a Book 2024 Release, published by Adobe. That's I started more or less a quarter of century ago when I got my first digital camera. It won't teach you everything - as has been noted, nothing will in a mere lifetime - but it got me up and going, and it made other advice I got easier to digest. You read a bit, then you get exercises, then you read some more, etc.

There are more books and tutorials on Lightroom & Photoshop than all others combined.
Look for some tutorials that say "Getting started with" or Lightroom /Photoshop Basics etc

But first it really does sound like an issue with your computer about which we have no info.
If you have a subscription first check hardware requirements for the program you are trying to run
You may quickly find that you have insufficient memory or graphics card or OS Version
When an application attempts to launch than hangs or quits there is a good chance it is oe of those.
Check that first, then call Adobe

Is there a question in there that you would like help with?

If you have questions about your system providing some info about said system will help. Such as, Computer, ram, processor type, GPU?, hard drive and available space, OS and version?

It could be an incompatibility with the computer’s GPU and if so you can disable use of the GPU in preferences. Adobe can help you with that.

Possibilities:
(1) corrupted software. Reload.
(2) old computer. Update.

As far as Photoshop is concerned, get used to looking at online tutorials. Start with basic stuff like using layers and masks. Then work up from there. Don't try to do everything at once.

While I have 'Lightroom' and I've even taken a class, with a live instructor, I prefer 'Photoshop', for which I've also taken a class from the same instructor. Note that both of these classes were adult education classes taught at one of local community colleges. And since they were being taught as part of a career enhancement series, they were free of charge.
