I was surprised that she is still around...nice heads up there.

At her age...might want to bring along a diffuser filter...no flash is the general rule (of course).

I'd say watch your back, but the average age of that concert will be 60 or older

I think that the first two considerations are the quality of the resultant photo that you desire and your ability to get it. The next is getting that quality without flash. If the venue says no flash it can be inferred that you can take photos, period.

I just got tickets to a Stevie Nicks concert. In Hershey PA. Haven't gone to concert for many years. I know that in the past you could not take any photos period. But with everyone having a Smart phone, and you can now take pictures with them. Dose anyone know if you can use a Real Professional camera at a concert. Have looked for info on ticket site's and the venue site. All it says is no flash photography during the show. Dose anyone have any experience or advice on this subject. I appreciate any Help thanks.

If they allow you in with a "Professional" camera...do it. Today's cameras with their high ISO abilities do fine without flash!

Every concert that I have attended, and I've been to many, none of them allowed a camera of any kind other than what's on your phone. I wouldn't take my DSLR or mirrorless because I'm telling you, you will end up having to take it back to your vehicle.

Get yourself a small bridge camera; I invested in a Panasonic Lumix DC-ZS80, and it has been allowed in all of the 'smaller' venues around Austin and San Antonio. I haven't tried taking it to an arena-sized show, and generally stay away from the really big shows anyway.
The DC-ZS80 has a 35mm equivalent zoom range of 24-720mm and shoots 4K video. I set it to ISO 6400 (the highest it will go), aperture priority, and hope the lights are bright enough to get a decent shutter speed.

I don't know about that.
My Samsung has a 10x lens and get take photos at 100 megapixels.

Steve Nicks at a concert in Washington, DC back when you could take 35mm cameras and zoom lenses. Circa 1970 or so.
I was so new to photography, I was guessing blindly at exposures.

It’s arbitrarily whatever the venue says it is.

Many venues will include a bridge camera because it looks “professional”.

I believe that their definition of a pro camera, is that it is big!!!

I was once stopped walking into a concert venue, because I had a “professional camera”.
I explained to the bouncer, that any camera in my hands is a professional camera.
Because, I am a professional.
I actually got in with the kit!

The reasoning, I believe, by the venue or the band, regarding cameras, is that the photos taken with the “non pro camera” will not come out and the pro camera may actually produce acceptable results.
They don’t want a lowly ticket holder to get nice photos.

Policies are all over the map and vary with the musician's and music promoter's contracts. Get clarification in writing before you show up with a pro-grade camera and get turned away.

Many venues consider ANYTHING other than a phone to be a security risk. NFL stadiums won't let fans in with anything that isn't in a clear bag — a fairly small clear bag, at that! They don't allow cameras, either. Many concert venues have similar restrictions. Photographers often need permits, badges, and must limit photography to specific vantage points and for a limited number of songs.

It's not 1974 any more. The lawyers and promoters got smart.

I would consider not doing any photography or video of any kind to be an act of kindness to those around and especially behind me. The last concert I went to was a mob scene of folks trying to hold their phones higher than the phone holding fans in front of them. My wife couldn't see anything.

NHRA Drag racing events still allow "professional" cameras and long lenses into the event.

One you put on a tripod, perhaps?

Someone trying to shoot a concert with a view camera might be a side event all on its own. 😉

Hi Coolhanduke,
Thanks for replying. That was probably a great concert. Would have loved to see that one. Funny thing My first real camera was the Minolta SRT201with a vivitar zoom, that I purchased my self. Working part-time after school. Then I was gifted my First Nikon the FE and 2 Nikkor lenses. I have been a Nikon Nazi ever since.😀
Unfortunately going to see a concert has now become ruined with Profit, copyright regs and greed. I would just like to get good pictures for myself. Not to sell them. Maybe give some to friends. Thanks have a great day.

Brian
