I seem to recall that KTW made bullets that were teflon coated tungsten. Tungsten is a dense and extremely hard metal that has been used to penetrate tank armor. Tungsten has to be coated with something softer to engage the rifling in a barrel. I can't think of any reason for civilian use of such bullets.

I just looked it up to be sure and you are correct. Tungsten bullets were coated with Teflon in order for the rifling to grab the bullet. Tungsten is apparently so hard it cannot be engraved by the rifling in the bore. The bullets were made to be sold only to law enforcement agencies perhaps for shooting at vehicles speeding away. I do recall back in the 1930's armor piercing cartridges were made, I think mainly for the new .357 Magnum cartridge in 1935. As I recall but would have to look it up, similar cartridges were made in 38 Super, another cartridge brought out to be used against the gangsters back then.

You are correct in that there would not be much use for such a cartridge but when has anything needed to be useful to be purchased? Armor piercing rifle cartridges are very popular for target shooting and are used a lot by civilians.

I believe that this is because the government has sold off millions of rounds of surplus or outdated military ammunition to be used by the public, not to mention the number of military guns that have been sold to the public like the Garand rifle and the M1 Carbine. I have one of each. A lot of ammunition used in past wars was no longer needed when the wars ended or when the weapons issued changed. 30-06 from WWII, 7.62 Nato from Vietnam before the M16 replaced the M14 and so on. You can still buy military grade ammunition in bulk, making "target practice" relatively cheap. Premium hunting ammunition has gotten very expensive.

I have free shower caps from hotels, (in case of rain......) not for my head but for my camera, rubber jar opener, rain poncho and insect repellent. Also hand sanitizer and a tiny flashlight. Mole skin, band-aids, and little folding scissors round out my things besides the gear.

Aside from camera gear and the obligatory usb drives, card readers, cables and chargers, I always have an Apple AirTag and my custom UltimateEars Bluetooth in ear monitors, Kindle and iPad mini. I never leave home without them. I also have a small Cartier screw driver that fits the Cartier love bracelets. Never know when you will need to take them off.

I don't consider it a surprise! Just common sense! Others might see things differently.
It does make my bag a bit heavy. Just had to stop carrying a rarely used lens. The .45 is more important!

Don't you mean you also carry a Springfield 1911 f/.45. A very special and unique accessory.

Have you ever been assaulted?

You are absolutely right. My brother and I were buying WW1 and WW2 ammunition when we first got into firearms.
That included tracers, armor piercing and ball ammunition. Now I have a case of the Green Tip 5.56 ammunition around somewhere if needed.

Expensive is definitely the word for ammunition these days. I can remember buying a box of Remington Rocket .22 shorts for .35 and long rifle hollow points for .59. High power rifle ammunition, 257 Roberts, 30-30, 270, 30-06 for somewhere around $5.00. But now many are up into the $50-80 dollar range for a box of 20. If not for hand loading I couldn't shoot as much as I like.

Thanks for a great conversation.

Putting Apple Air Tags (well hidden) in your bag is a great idea.

They are in everything. Someone stole my wife’s Christian Dior bag from a party beach bar restaurant the other day. We have many theories but it was eventually returned as we could see where it went to a nearby hotel. We told the restaurant to just call the police and there is an AirTag in it. They said don’t worry, someone just called from a nearby hotel to say that they took it by mistake and were returning it. You don’t accidentally take a large Christian Dior bag.
We know the place pretty well, and they know us. Maybe that is why we got it back. There is security and we really would like to not believe that the restaurant had anything to do with it, but there are too many odd things about it.

We did get it back and we were able to track it. Just keep your batteries in your AirTags high.

I have been threatened, which stopped immediately when the bad guys SAW that I was armed!
They didn't have to take my word for it!

I had the same experience several years ago. Didn’t even need to touch the gun. The five young studs hit the road when they noticed my gun.
