I own it because ever since I joind a competative rifle squad in high school I have enjoyed shooting at local ranges. The S&W shares space with a .22 revolver. I also own three shotguns, my orriginal Remington target rifle from 1964, and another .22 rifle I inherited from my father in law. Why don't I carry? Because most of the places I go to don't allow firearms. (Church, restaurants, etc.) If I'm at a downtown restaurant, I would be most likly to need the gun going from car to restaurant and back, but since I can't take the gun into the restaurant or bar I can't carry it anyway. Concealed carry is legal in Ohio, but impractical in many cases. Also, the S&W 38 revolver is a bit large for concealed carry.

When I worked for the Red Cross I was often in housing projects that had armed guards in the parking lots. I thought about carrying then, but I don't think the RC would allow it.

But your points are well taken. Perhaps I'll reconsider.

Yes, I understand that it can be very inconvenient to carry, concealed or otherwise. That's why I sometimes carry my .45 in my "camera bag", which is actually my shoulder bag. I call it my "man bag" Just so there are no misunderstandings!
But I refuse to allow people or businesses to dictate when and where I can be responsible for my and my wife's personal safety. I ALWAYS carry and if I break laws or bump up against folks sensibilities, then so be it! I would rather defend my right of self preservation than try to speak from the grave on the subject!

I don't use Apple, so what's a "find it" disc?

Apple Air Tags - I hide them in my car. Wife’s handbags, Camera bags, travel luggage. One Air Tag spotted my (‘Find My’ App) missing luggage in Arizona Airport FROM Upstate NY. Airlines got it to me next day after I told them exactly where it was! $99 for pack of four, uses replaceable disk Btry’s after maybe a year or so.

Many years ago, I met a bear expert while horse camping in bear country in Wyoming. He was about 6’5”/250 pounds, carrying a .44 mag. Me: 5’7”/170. He suggested I carry a .357 Mag. Funny story: he told me about a guy he knew of that got chased by a grizzly once. The man ran down in a ditch, up the other side into a wall of brambles. Trapped. The bear ran down into the ditch; kept jumping up trying to get out of the ditch. Every time his head appeared, the man shot his .22 at the bear. After 9 rounds the bear didn’t pop up again. Forest service people came out and checked the bear. Told the guy the only reason the bear was killed was because one of the bullets had gone through an eye socket at just the right angle to pierce the brain. Who knew??

There is a video on Youtube where a gentleman openly carrying was attacked going into a store. The attacker THOUGHT this open carrying individual was going to shoot up the store and was trying to be the good guy. The attacker had to be dragged off the honest citizen before police arrived.

As an ex cop I have never liked open carry for that reason and also because if you are carrying openly anyone can come up to you, point a finger in your back and demand your out in the open firearm. Better nobody knows you are carrying as protection to you and everyone else when you may need that firearm.

You are absolutely correct Dennis! The media refuses to publish incidents whereupon a citizen prevents or terminates a crime from being committed by his use of a lawfully carried firearm. It happens over a million times a year.

Gracias Amigo.

I don’t carry a firearm because I am afraid but because I have common sense and refuse to be a victim. I pray I may never have to use it. Taking someone’s life would be devastating and the legalities afterward a nightmare even if I was fully in the right. But losing my life would be worse.

Excellent practice! I, too, now carry a whistle after getting turned around a couple of times.
