If you dig into that article, you'll find that most current cars can not support the charging speed. Knowing a thing or two about electricity, I can tell you that a ton of heat would be generated in charging a battery at 500KW and a lot of things can go wrong with damaged equipment. Like most things, making a battery that can charge twice as fast makes it more than twice as expensive.
Pure electric vehicles are getting better, but unless you're charging the cars with solar or wind, you're spinning your wheels from a net energy efficiency standpoint. In 5 minutes, I can put enough gasoline in my Prius to drive over 400 miles and have unlimited heating and air conditioning.
