Are your hearing aids easily adjustable? Mine can be adjusted via a button on the hearing aid or via a iPhone app (easier) to control volume, sensitivity, and tone range. Made by Oticon. My audiologist told me it would take about 4 months or so to get adjusted to them, telling me the part of the brain having to do with hearing goes through an adjustment to the hearing aids and what they are hearing. That seemed to be the case for me. Much better able hear tv, and normal conversations. (Wife sure is happy). I realize not every version works the same for everyone; just my 2 cents worth.

I got all the same from the people at VA, and the followup is for them to adjust it and spend more time teaching me to do it myself. For one thing, the charger case is programmable to a degree and it keeps turning up the volume after I turn it down.

Plus the earpieces of my glasses touch the hearing aids and sometime move the little switch. I have a new Rx for glasses, so my wife suggested I get the kind with a straight earpiece. But they would still be across the top of the hearing aids. I will just have to be patient while my brain adjusts to them.

Old women too. At 86, I just cannot make myself call my neighbor when I need to move my 100 pound birdbath or concrete flower pots or climb a tall ladder into my 12 foot ceilings. My son can see what shows on my exterior cameras from his house 8 blocks away and yells at me a lot.

My wife has been overdoing it lately, with injuries and wear and tear of the hands and ankles from a career as a Surgical RN and OR Charge nurse. Then last week she tripped, pulled a couple of muscles, and bruised some others. Since first met her in the early 70s I and others have been constantly telling her to stop trying to outdo the guys. (She is my height and an athlete in school.)
But she doesn't listen much and when she does she tells me I am full of ... Well today when she admitted she overdid it and needed to stay in her lounge chair a lot I asked "Hmm, who is it who has been telling you to take it easy?" Her answer was, "My Doctor", Pam (a friend across the street) drove me to Kaiser the other day. I tried to get her to acknowledge I had been telling her also but she just smiled and didn't answer me.
Maybe I need to get our daughter Jasmine to visit and tell her. NO Jasmine is the baby of the family and what could she know? Even if she is now an MD (Pediatrician).

Glad to know you are OK. We all just have to watch out for anything unusual when we get old. My problem is that I am so much slower now!!!!

When we were young, we talked about sports, and sex. When we got married we talked about our kids. Now that we are old, we talk about our illnesses.

We're just a bit stubborn Robert! Sometimes I just have to rest a whole day after I do so much but quitting is not an option for me. I'm sure I will be forced to slow down though....eventually.

Back in 2015 I had my yearly checkup and the EKG found an anomaly which called for a Cardiac Cath.
As they were prepping me for the Cath. a nurse ask me what med I was on, Told her allergy meds. and B/P meds. she said at your age, that's all yep. Well they took care of that !!
The Cath. revealed some minor blockage in one small artery now on now on five meds. But they worked for a long time.
A Sunday morning this feb. I woke up with a tightness in my chest @ 1:00 a.m. it didn't hurt but it wasn't normal
I had been having these twinges that lasted never more than a min and my cardiologist and I decided to just keep an eye on them.
Sunday morning at 4:00 am I went down the road to the Ambulance House and the medics ran a strip and found nothing going on, Monday morning I called Dena left a message , she called back a little later, the told me to increase one med by 50% and not over 100% and come in Tues. unless I didn't get relief well the 50% didn't help so 20min I took another 50% and got relief almost immediately .
Wed morning they ran a strip and nothing was showing up, So time for another Cath. Fri. Talked to the surgeon and told him it the blockage was marginal to go ahead with the stint he agreed, well now I have the stint and three more meds. But everything is back to normal. Dena told me I might still have the twinges but with time they should diminish.
Our hike to Greer Spring the weekend before last was a test, I passed !!!

Using your first phrase, "Back in 2015," December to be more precise, I was in a city about 150 miles from home and staying in a hotel overnight. My wife was with me. During the night I awoke with some discomfort I presumed was indigestion and was able to get back to sleep/ In the morning I still had the discomfort and my wife noticed something was amiss. I told her about the discomfort and she said we should go to a hospital. At the hospital they did several tests and admitted me for observation. The next day, after inconclusive findings, they suggested a cardiac catheter which required me transferred to a different hospital across the city. I had a cardiologist appointment in a couple days and also a PCP appointment about the same time. The doctors agreed I could travel home and keep the appointments. I did and my docs agreed with the cath procedure. It was set up and the cath was performed. As I was coming out of the anesthesia for the cath, the cardiologist was standing beside my bed and stated, "You need open heart surgery." I had the surgery (Double bypass) a couple weeks later and have been feeling well since. I was 69 at tht time and am now closing in on 77. I have reduced my weight some, my wife cooks meals to help keep down my cholesterol and I take seven different medications, two of which are non-prescription. I see a cardiologist twice a year plus my PCP similarly. I am a veteran and also see the local VA clinic for additional follow-up. I am very appreciative of the doctors, nurses, and all the other ancillary personnel that had imvolvement with my care and treatment. I plan to stay around for several more years. With the help of my wife and my medical teams, I think I'll make it.

Yes, because I can't remember sports, sex, or kids. It's all I got left.

Yes, it surely does get worse. Heart attack 13 years ago and then new valve. 10 years of good heart health but neuropathy started to worsen and they opened a few valves in my leg but no real help. Stint in my heart last year and it is getting but now need a walker to get around. The bottom of my feet feel like sponges and no feeling of pain. Getting old just has its inconveniences to deal with. BUT, not giving up! Still got lots of things to do with my life and am going to do them. Italy and Normandy in the future.

If you have heart issues (I’ve had two “widow maker” 100% blockage of the LAD heart attacks and stented both times), let me suggest a couple of devices that will help you tell if you’re having a recurrence or a new issue that needs your immediate attention.

First is the Kardia mini 2 lead EKG. It’s about 3/4”x3”x1/4” thick and fits in a neat holder that sticks to the back of my IPhone. There’s an accompanying ap that you load on your phone. To take an EKG, you hold it between your fingers of each hand and it does a 30 second ekg. It shows you the waveform from the entire record, your heart rate and reads out whether it’s a normal heart EKG or an arrhythmia. You can save it as a pdf and text it to your doctor in real time. Costs about $80 and if you know what to look for, it will tell you instantly if you’re having an arrhythmia or an MI. Can’t tell you the number of times I’ve been reassured when I get a chest pain and saved a trip to the ER. Highly recommended. https://kardia.com/kardiamobile?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA3JCvBhA8EiwA4kujZpSJ8msL1XTCeNN-xfv3ZNpukOHUwcSrzm2-scqqJu4LCFhxNyDzYBoC53QQAvD_BwE

Secondly a pulse oximeter (pulse ox) will give you your heart rate and oxygen saturation instantly - just clamps on your finger and costs about $20 on Amazon.

And finally a blood pressure monitor that clamps on your wrist. I do it the old fashioned way with an inflatable cuff and a stethoscope, but this device makes it easy.

With these 3 tools, you can do an EKG, check your heart rate, oxygen salts and blood pressure within minutes, which can not only be reassuring, but save your life if you have a history of heart or coronary artery disease. Important once you come to realize that each day is a gift, not a given

Got a pulse/ox and a blood pressure machine as well as a wireless heart monitor in my house that regularly reports to the Dr. Looking at Kardia; have to figure out how to set one up. Dr. didn’t feel it was necessary with the others stuff I have as well as my implanted defribrilator/pacemaker. Still thinking about the Kardia, though, if I can figure out how to set it up on my phone. In 15 years, the defib has only shocked me once legitimately, about 8-10 years ago. Dr. worked on heart after that and it has never gone off again; in fact he has felt confident enough to have taken me off medication for the condition.
