To be really informative editing information should be included That would provide the true picture ( pun intentional)

You would need to know the format (FF or APS or 4/3 etc..) and you would also need to know the focus distance, the focal length of the lens as well as the aperture.

All of that would be in the EXIF data except distance to the focus point, which in many cases would be guessable. I know from experience that it's possible to learn from the camera info when it's available. It takes a bit of effort and some background knowledge but that doesn't mean it's a waste of time.

I have always enjoyed whenever I have seen exif data published as I learned a lot from it, especially when I was a newbie

For what it's worth, Thomas Heaton created a survey on his YouTube channel regarding his EXIF info for his photos.

I took a screenshot of his newsletter sharing the results of the survey.

ROUNDING, it happens........
ie. 56.6 in two digits is 57

Otherwise you may only have 99% if simply truncated.
Some would complain about that also, off by 1.....
The OTHER way.

I've never seen the point when photo magazines and other publications like Arizona Highways print the shutter speed, f/stop, ISO, and lens information regarding the photos they take. Is this supposed to be educational? The settings were good for that particular time on that particular day, but maybe not so good at other times. They usually don't mention if a tripod was used. Am I missing something?

You're right...those informations are not really relevant as long one don't know how many "EV" was the light, what sensor size, focal length, distance, ISO, etc. And even if we get all those details, I'm not sure they would remain interesting...except for photographers who woul love to replicate a similar picture if they can catch exactly the same subject, same background, same everything!

People lie outrageously when replying to polls.

I'm amazed to see that the number of views on this post have zoomed past 4,200! I was just musing that most photographers don't find them very helpful, but a significant portion of UHH readers feel otherwise - some strongly so. So, if the info helps, that's great!

I can't believe ALL the negativity about posting EXIF info... Who cares... " Walk on by and meet on the corner ". Do we object to footnotes in a book ? Actually I find it interesting; whole lot more so than 15 pages of nonsensical debate.

I agree, but I have to say that I never expected to see a reference to LeRoy Van Dyke on UHH.
