Close to the park is good. You can always drive to Nine Pipes or the towns for restaurants.

Itβs quite a drive to Ninepipes and back to Glacier for a day but the background of the Missions is spectacular. The Bison range is a little further. I was suggesting that it was a nice drive by if coming up from the south on hiway 93. This is but a single peak in the range.

Okay, I don't know how to continue a previous post. Is anyone familiar with the town of Whitefish? We are looking at lodging that's pet friendly for Glacier National Park and one of the places is Whitefish and the other is Columbia Falls. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Try using an app called Bring Fido. They show dog friendly accommodations, size limits, and whether there is a fee.

I'm looking at this app right now and it's great, thank you so much.

I didn't mean to post twice. I checked one hotel and it showed $87, but when I went to book, it was $140 reserving through Bring Fido. I checked a Comfort Inn that was $157, and when I reserved it through the app, it was $102. Beautiful suite.
Glacier NP is pretty heavy driving situation.
Columbia Falls is probably the closet start but considering driving distances tor that part of Montana,
Whitefish would not be unreasonable. You need to consider your goals for your trip.
The Going to the SunHighway gets you from one edge of the park up to the Canadian Border. If your goal is hiking, you will find many opportunities off Goingto the Sun.
If your goal is to see a fine bit of Montana based in the Flathead Valley offers many options including Glacier.
Personally, unless hiking is your main goal, I'd suggest your looking into going to the National Bison Range, doing a drive through, visiting the nearby Mission to see the chapel artwork, The is a pay fee museum featuring Native American Art nearby relatively speaking. Seeing the Mission Mounrtains at dawn.
It has been several years since I have visited so somethings I suggest might be out of date. My comments are based upon being a professional travel photographer now retired that has photographed the region a half dozen times may-years ago.

Outstanding information.....thank you so very much.
We stayed in a house on Whitefish Lake and the lake is gorgeous-the clearest water you have ever seen with beautiful colored rocks on the bottom.

Yes Sir,
We're staying in a beautiful house on a gorgeous acre of land in Whitefish.
Here are a few images from the Flathead Valley region, it is quite a drive from Glacier NP to the Bison Range and seeing the Mission Range but well worth it if one has the time in a Glacier NP visit,

Nice photos. Quite a beautiful drive to the bison range.
Not a lodging suggestion but try to get a Wild Goose Island sunrise. It is nearer the eastern entrance though!
