Medium format, photo printers

I have been using the Epson stylus photo R3000 medium format printer for the past eight or nine years. Basically, it has been a really great printer. I’ve done a few canvases that turned out really well. But in the end had had trouble getting the canvas to go through the printer.
My question is, does anyone know of a medium format printer that would be a better choice than this one, that also easily does canvas and might be less pricey for the ink.
Thank so much for any help anyone can give me.

The Epson R3000 is considered a wide format printer (13") even though there are wider format printers. I think any printer wider than 8 1/2 is actually considered wide format. You have a lot of choices in the same 13" wide category. I currently have an Epson ET-8550 (13") ecotank printer that I love. I've printed canvas and the results were very good. Ink cost is very low. I've been using it for a year and my ink tanks are just a bit below half full. (full set of 70ml refill ink bottles runs $85 - $100) It is dye ink versus the pigment you've been using but it has a pigment matte black it uses when set for matte media. Print quality is shockingly good considering it's 6 color ink palette. You could go with an Epson P700 (pigment), Epson XT-15000 (dye) but ink costs will be steep unless you modify and refill with the XT-15000. You could also go with Canon Pro 200 (dye) or Pro 300 (pigment) but ink costs are again high and full ink waste tanks will brick the printer. Check out videos by JToolman or his fb group frequented by many photo printing enthusiasts from over the world.

Not all printers have a platen adjustment, which is what helps get thicker materials through the printer.
I have an Epson Sure Color P5000 which has a platter adjustment (although I never print canvas)
See if you can determine if the 3000 has a platten adjustment.
If you are happy with your regular prints, you could continue to use it for that, and send that canvas out to be printed.
I don't know if that is helpful, but I am fairly certain it is just a platen issue causing the difficulty.

Thank you so much for your help.
I am going to look into these new avenues.
I love the 3000 but it’s pricey and Inc. too
It’s anywhere from $28-$33 a cartridge and there’s nine cartridges in the printer
I do love the product the photos are great.
Lately, when I put a sheet of canvas in it just rolls right through nothing will put on it. I could do that 10 times standing there and nothing happens and I don’t know why or what for it’s Very frustrating. Thanks again

Thank you so much for the help. I will look into all of these options and see what I can find out. I was told that it was a medium format, printer and anything 13 inches wide and up was a wide matte printer. Now I know.
Guess that’s why I was having trouble finding a medium format printer.
Thanks again for the help. I really appreciate it.

Thank you. I will check into it and see if I can find out if it has platted adjustment. The last time I tried to print on a canvas it was a 11 x 13 and it would go through the printer but nothing would print it would just keep sliding through. I did this like nine or 10 times could not get it to catch. It would just slide through like a rejected piece of paper.
I just became very frustrated. It’s old and it’s starting to leak. It’s definitely time for a new one and absolutely have no idea which way to go. All information is greatly appreciated at this point. Thanks again.
