See how they are bolted together? Take them apart and you have a plier. A plier is useless. Bolt two together and you have a useful tool.

A PAIR ently, we have a conundrum.
I think most Europian languages would say "pair of pliers" but Asian lanquages I don't think so.

Scientifically speaking, I believe a “pair of pliers” is 2 levers with a common fulcrum. Therefore, a lever must also be known as a plier.
The set below would be called 2 pairs of pliers.
I could be, and probably am, wrong.
